The Book Marketing Network

For book/ebook authors, publishers, & self-publishers

I got a note from AGNI in email a few days ago rejecting a story I submitted to them for possible publication. Ironically, since I've come to understand that the vast majority of submissions are rejected, I actually felt good about the fact that they read my piece and responded to me in a reasonable period of time. I know that not all story submissions are going to work for every single publication I submit to, just because I'd like it to be published.

What's "good" about this situation is that the rejection didn't hurt, didn't sting, and didn't surprise. For me, I think getting an acceptance will be the exception to the rule rather than the other way around. Maybe that is just my practical side talking, but this note made me hungrier to continue submitting and seeing how long it will take me to get my story placed.

And while it would be nice to get an acceptance note, I'm not sitting around waiting for any notes - accepting or rejecting. I keep writing. I figure the more stories I have to circulate... that is to say well written, fully formed and completed pieces... the better. So there's no point in waiting to hear back from these folks, it's always time to move forward on my own.
