This is a memoir. A mental illness is not something you can test in a lab or through physical means. It is marked by unusual behavioral symptoms. This may include paranoid beliefs or unrealistic fears, hallucinations, and a general disconnection from the norms. A person with schizophrenia might have disorganized speech and difficulty concentrating. Some may have a flat effect or lack of feelings related to the external world.
They can be caught up with internalized thought processes that are difficult to change. Those who are diagnosed with schizophrenia still can be smart and accepting of others.
Overcoming the problems with schizophrenia has been a difficult and enlightening journey. I have come to terms with the fact that sometimes there are things we just cannot control. In writing this memoir I have gathered journal entries and reflections on dealing with crisis and how I related to situations.
