The Book Marketing Network

For book/ebook authors, publishers, & self-publishers

I have a new thing that I do. I spend a half hour a day promoting my books. Once I have accomplished my goal of one half hour, I give myself permission not to do any more promoting that day. If I still want to I can, but I give myself permission to stop.

I do this because promoting can be such discouraging hard work with no end in sight. There is so much to do and yet so little to do. I feel like I am trying to bail out the ocean with a teaspoon. Especially since I have a small publisher. So by limiting myself to the goal of one half hour per day I feel that I am accomplishing something, whereas with indefinate time to promote on my hands I never feel finished, and never feel like I have accomplished anything.

As it so happens I have gone beyond my half hour today, as I often do. I don't mind going overtime at all. In fact, I am thinking of giving myself overtime pay in the form of ice cream as a reward.
