"Sorry to have to ask you this."

I lean over the table at our favorite restaurant. “I need to go to the ladies room.”

You’d think by now I’d remember to take my white cane so I don’t have to bother hubby. Sigh.

“Sure, hon.” He drops his fork on his plate. “Let’s go.”

He takes me by the hand. We circle around tables and head down the hallway. When we reach the bathroom door, I hand him my purse. He opens the door, and whispers. “Go a little to your left.”

I follow his instructions with no problem. But finding the way out isn’t that easy.

So, hubby does his thing: At his 6’2”, 300 lbs. he stands outside the ladies’ room. And with my purse dangling from one hand, with the other he knocks on the door.

It’s team work. While he’s determined to help me, I listen for the sound and find my way out.

What a guy! He endures strange looks from others, perhaps silent mocking, or even reasonable suspicion. He doesn’t care, he’s still determined.

But you and I know of a greater determination and commitment—the one two thousand years ago. Jesus endured lashing, flogging, ridicule, piercing, and torture on that gloomy Friday.

But on Sunday, He opened the door to our freedom—from death, from fear, from sorrow, and from pain.

He endured all on that awful Friday, but on Sunday He rose to triumph. He defeated evil and He destroyed death.

Here’s a question for you and me: Considering the burdens that press in our heart…are we navigating aimlessly through life in the gloom of Friday? Or in the glory of that Sunday…
