I am almost certain Mr. Churchill did not intend for people to become accustomed to an enduring life of hell. My understanding, or perception, is if one finds him/her self battling a hellish experience, one should push the line, forward, to the next episode.

The key term to focus on is through. In other words, hellish moments are to be conquered by keeping ones focus on an exit strategy...the goal. Because if the decision is made to wallow in the mud of misery, then how could there be a positive outcome? Obviously, there cannot be.
