My name is Dave Wilgus, one of six million baby boomers , who have the distinction of putting a strain on an already failing Social Security System. I am a retired auto worker who has nothing better to do with his time , but to write poetry and books. One year ago I decided to write a memoir of my life spanning 50 plus years which epitomizes the plight and heartaches of the average American family. I pondered a title for my book and decided that because of all the tragic circumstances , the divine inspirations that I witnessed, that a higher power should be honored.
So the memoir was given the title : Our Fathers Wonderful Mercy. Most everyone believes in a higher power in there life, so let's not get hung up on that. One thing we all will admit is that the average American family is in trouble. According to the American Dream, most families are under a great deal of economic stress . One would have to go back to the Great Depression to see America in a worse dilemma than they are now. Only 66.8% of American men had a job last year. If this was the only problem we had to contend with in our families, life would not be so bad. My focus and concerns are on how the families have gotten in the mess that they are in and can the future survival of the American home rebound.
G.K. Chesterton draws on a important conclusion on the family , " It Isn't that they can't see the solution , it's that they can't see the problem. A steady decline of moral values has all but disappeared in most homes. The American home can best be described as a bomb ready to detonate. Is it possible to get our families back to the days of Ozzie and Harriet or Leave It To Beaver where family values were cherished. I am quite sure it won't happen, but there is no harm in trying to bring sanity back in the homes.
