The Sterley’s of Oakland Park a classic regency novel in the making

This particular novel started out life as a spoof on Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice for the 2007 National writer’s month competition

However this work has turned out to be so successful in its own right that I have self published it on lulu.com.

The story revolves around Sir Thomas and Lady Ann Sterley the lord and lady of the manor of Oakland Park near the town of the fictional town of Notheringay Surry set in the years 1813-1816 this is a story of a family with various members who lead us delightfully down the pages as their story is retold.

The thing that makes this book different from your classical and more modern Regency romance is the fact that although it contains all the requirements of a regency novel it is structured around the story of a typical family of a certain social class with more then one heroine and a number of gentlemen of elegance who make one wish that one had been alive at the time of the regency to enjoy the social adventures that occurred. Typically the misunderstandings and delightful play on words which lead to so many strange and wonderful adventures back in the early days of the 19th Century.

Set in a time of elegance when one member of a family could make or destroy a family’s good name and fortune, A time when hero's rescued his lady love, the age of courtly behavior when manners meant every thing a time when Jane Austen was writing her great classics this is the period in which The Sterley's of Oakland Park is set at times humorous satirical look at regency life follow the adventures of Young Tom Sterley as he is sent out to Africa to work in the colonel service a poet at heart the young man is forced to work out his days as a bureaucrat but his nights he spends with his beautiful wife. The story also tells the tale of the adventures of daring Captain Aubrey who is a first rate sailor, of Sir Thomas as he try’s to write his book on the study of the birds of Southern England. It tells the story of a large family who were typical of those far off times

This work is bound in time to become a classic book which will be read by many and occasionally quoted from.
There are currently planes to write another book in the series which will deal exclusively with the love and life of Lady Ann & Sir Thomas set in the years 1803-1806 but in the mean time the Sterley’s of Oakland Park is available here
