Dark Tidings by Ken Magee

http://www.amazon.com/Dark-Tidings-Ancient-Magic-Internet-ebook/dp/...

I love a good fantasy story. Add in time travel and what do you get?

Dark Tidings: Ancient Magic Meets the Internet Book 1

Sound intriguing?

The book follows two separate stories for about the first third the way through. Meet Madrick and Tung: a wizard and a teenager living about a thousand years ago. By acquiring the Spell spell, they are able to make a seemingly limitless amount of spells. Unfortunately, each spell has to be used before the next one can be created.

The other story is taking place during present times and is centered around Michael, a super computer geek that is newly hired at IIBE, a very wealthy and powerful financial institution. Michael is doing a great job and is quickly being recognized for his genius computer skills, but he has a hidden agenda to take down this greedy institution.

How could these two totally different stories have any commonality?

Sorry, my friend-no spoilers here. You are just going to have to read Dark Tidings for yourself. Suffice it to say that when you get to that part of the book, it just keeps getting better and better.

As of the posting of this blog, Dark Tidings is only 99 cents on Amazon. If you have Kindle Unlimited-its FREE! I hope you can pick up your copy and tell me how you liked this most unusual fantasy.

Until next time, I'm 4-LAN...and you're not :-)

I enjoyed it well enough, Ken. It was full of lovely ideas, but I thought it could have been even better than it was. I know how difficult it is to finish a work and leave it to its fate. Often it's all too easy to hang on to it for far too long. I just felt you could have hung on to this one a bit longer and made some improvements.

I'm sorry you didn't enjoy Dark Tidings, Ian, but thank you for giving it a go.

It's funny how tastes differ - I've had readers who loved the ending, while a few others thought it ended a bit abruptly.

When I wrote Dark Tidings, there was no real plan for a sequel. Like many people, I felt I had a book in me, so it was a pleasant surprise to find I had, in fact, three (and one more on the way).

I'm afraid I wasn't terribly impressed by this. Yes, it was intermittently funny, but the characters are very sketchily drawn, the style uneven, and although there are lots of good ideas, the climax of the chase is a very damp squib indeed. The last third of the book seems no more than an introduction to the sequel. It's a very difficult thing to bring off this kind of thriller with a light and humorous touch, and it didn't work for me. Still, I think the authors later works could be a great improvement.

Yes EG, as 4-LAN says, the whole book is on Wattpad. And reading it there allows you give feedback, criticise, praise or ask questions as you read.

Sounds really interesting and different.   I hope the e-book makes it Nook at some point.  The print copy is a bit out of my range and, unfortunately,  I can't get the kindle app to work on my first gen ipad.

Okay all, I just started a new discussion based upon the interview I just conducted with Ken. Hope you all can stop by and check it out!

Yes and be on the lookout for my upcoming interview with Ken.

Again, thank you all for attending this review of Dark Tidings. Jason, Book Caster is a very cool site. I will be heading that way to see if I can throw in my two cents on Ken's book and possibly others that I find over there that I have read :-)

I will still swing by and check on this blog. Sometimes we get stragglers that just take a little longer to check their messages and give us a visit :-)

Also, it is much appreciated when any and all of you share this link on your other social media :-)

Thanks again to everyone for the kind words and support.

Jason, good luck with Bookcaster. I've added a few thoughts for the Dark Tidings cast. Observant folk will notice I'm a massive Game of Thrones fan.

You're welcome Ken :) "unusual fantasy" always catches my attention - as does a recommendation from 4-Lan ;)
