Linda - this is the mention - I just copied from the comments on my page. You must have recently added Google alerts and this snuck through since it was mentioned so long ago.

I did the only thing I knew how to do. The book cover is under the heading "Lady Flatterley". I know I should make a blog just for that book. My son who is a computer geek is going to try and teach me how to make blogs over the phone this weekend so I can go ahead and try and make one. I really need to change the other one because of the coloring alone. Some people have said it is difficult to read so I need to change to a different template. If you go to the side and find Lady Flatterley, and click on it, the book cover will come up, or click on children's books on top then click on Lady Flatterley You mentioned about making a direct link to the page. That is one of the things that I hope my son will be able to teach me. He was one the one that built my blog. I'm just a nurse that needs to learn all the tricks of this trade. I'm tired of feeling helpless. It's time to learn.

Thank you for adding me as a friend. I get my books printed at Derek Press in Cleveland, Tn and have been pleased with their work. I like being able to sit across the desk from someone instead of over a phone, email or having to fly wherever. My problem is marketing. Do you know a good local marketer?

Thanks Susan. I think what I have found so discouraging is having everything done, illustrations, layout, editing, and then to find out that doesn't make any diffierence to the company. They seem to be more concerned when things are all done. I really put my heart and soul into this little book, and I have one being edited that is a biography. When I was with a publishing company, I had an agent, but since I didn't have them illustrate my book, the concern that I would succeed in my efforts circled the drain. I'm disappointed in the publshing aspect so far and I may just go to LuLu and have a few books put together for family and friends. You get the feeling that they feel it has to be their way or no way at all. So according to them, the author really doesn't have any rights. Sorry, just a tid bit discouraged sorting through publishing companies. Glad to meet a native Chattanooga person. I kinda like to think we are really nice people. Right?

Linda,
This story is being published with Living Waters publishing company. I'm so sorry for your result on the publication end of your book. I would simply say, re-submit it. My short story "Breathe" involved a different small publisher, and I had several problems with acquiring copies of the books. I believe that your difficulty, unfortunately, is not uncommon. I've heard that Guardian Angel Publishing is a good house as well.

I noticed in the other post that you are setting up a blog. I think that's a "do-able" next step, in the meantime. I'm working to figure out the future of a new children's story as well. I'm not sure whether to seek magazine publishing or book publishing for it...

Tough decisions~
Let me know your next step, and pass along that book blog when you finish it.

Go for it - and dreams do come true - so I would say you are on the right track. I went to your blog listed above but didn't see book cover as you had posted on Aidana's site. How about posting a direct link to your book and cover - E :)

Linda,
I love your story. I especially like the way you've acknowledged the dreams in your life that have already come true. Like you, writing is a dream for me. I never knew there was any other choice. I just didn't know what to do with all that I wrote.

My first children's book "The Pilgrim's Basket" is due out late this fall. You can see its beginnings at http://writethroughme.blogspot.com/

Congratulations on the direction you are heading!

I have nothing but admiration for you Brian. I don't know what it would be like to work at a job I truly loved. After my husbands death, I felt that I would start doing something that I enjoyed, and that was writing. Not to say that I was stiffled in any way, it was just that Rick loved living on the edge of life, and me, I had to feel the solid ground under my feet.

I wish I had the plain ole' gutts to just quit and take a chance. I can't do bedside nursing anymore because of my hands, but my mind (i think) is still intact. I just hate, hate, hate, being under ones thumb.
Just a quick question, did you start off with an agent? I had 3 books in a PH and I broke the contract because I found that it was a Vanity Publishing and I just didn't want that kind of start in life with writing. But, I haven't had a mentor to say, hey you should do this or that. That's why I feel like I am walking in uncharted territory for myself.
Oh yes, I wrote poetry also, and had a couple published. I do more just as an expression when I send a card to someone. My children's books are in poetry also. Some of them are short stories. Just need that emotional high of having that first one published. I do wish I had an imagination like you, but I am just too darn realistic. Go figure.

Hi Linda,

Thanks for accepting my invitation. I had to give up 'work'due tio illness ands everyone told me that I had a tealent for writing as I'd done it as a hobby for years. So, I began by writing poetry, had about 200 published, won a few awards, moved on to short stories, every one of which found publishers, and then progressed to novels, and the rest, as they like to say, is history. I still can't quite believe that people actually want to buy something I've written because to me, it's such fun doing it. I,love the research side of things and my love of everything to do with forensics, psychological disorders and the 'dark side' of human nature has stood me in good stead in being able to create what I hope are some truly chilling villains. I've studied the Ripper murders for over 35 years so I hope I have a reasonable grip on that particular case. I'm also a mener of a unmber of ripperologists societies so I have a great deal of knowledge to draw upon for my Jack the Ripper works.

I do hope I haven't bored you with my reply to your question. I suppose the bottomline answer is that without my writing, I'd have no source of income and no source of self-respect, which my books have given me, in spades, as they say.

So thatnks again for accepting my invitation and I'll lok forward to hearing much more from you in future.

Best regards

Brian

Oh man. You're working with a subside publishing company? Which one. I wondered where your books were when I visited your website. Now I understand why there were no links to them. I'm just in the process of getting the cover done and the ISBN procured for my 2nd book. I'm starting my own publishing company and thus am doing quite a bit of this stuff myself. I have to get ready for church soon, but I'll be online later. When you tell me what company you're working with etc., I'll know more how to help.
