Rumor has it that certain white senior officers and members of Hoffler’s squadron thought that his squadron’s command element was "too Black" and were of the opinion that Blacks should be "kept in their place." As a result, racist forces within the USAF Academy targeted Hoffler with one goal in mind: to deny him promotion to colonel. A distinguished officer, Hoffler followed military protocol and pursued justice through appropriate channels, but to no avail.
