Flag Day Giveaway - Get a Free PDF of Patriotic Children's Book

In celebration of Flag Day and the Fourth of July, I am excited to announce a very special free offer. From now through July 4, 2010, I will give away an unlimited number of electronic PDF copies of my children’s picture book The Flag Keeper, about a spunky little girl determined to create her own “Independence Day” and prove she is old enough to treat the U.S. flag with respect.

I wrote the text of the story and my father, Larry Drumtra, an extremely talented artist, created 24 pages of adorable full-color illustrations. If you have a special child in your life, or if you’re an elementary school teacher, children’s librarian or troop leader and would like a thematic story to commemorate holidays such as Flag Day and the Fourth of July, then all you have to do is print out the PDF, staple, and share. Parents can also read it on the computer with their children. The book is also ideal for military families to enjoy.

What is an author of adult mystery and suspense novels doing writing picture books? My husband is extremely patriotic and has taught me all sorts of interesting tidbits about the U.S. flag. I don’t remember learning any of this information in school and thought it would be fun and educational to weave it into a story for children. In The Flag Keeper, eight-year-old Elizabeth wakes up the American flag in the morning and puts it to bed at night. She acts as her father’s “flag keeper,” helping him with his daily tasks of raising the flag and retiring it for the evening. She soaks up the etiquette facts that Dad teaches her, including don’t leave the flag out in the dark without a spotlight.

I would love to see this story published with the existing illustrations, if the right opportunity comes along. It would also make a terrific addition to a school, library, or museum curriculum on the U.S. flag. What the future of this story will be, I don’t know, but in the meantime, I invite you to share this special electronic edition of The Flag Keeper with the children in your life. If you would like a copy sent to you as a PDF, please visit http://bit.ly/cD5sLe for the details and to see sample illustrations.
