The Book Marketing Network

For book/ebook authors, publishers, & self-publishers

I'd like to start a new forum where people can talk about what's working for you right now in marketing your book.

I think this will help other authors to prioritize their activities if they can find out what's working for other people. This would be especially valuable to new authors.

I've share the hottest tool that I'm using right now. And that's Twitter. As you will note on the main page of this Book Marketing Network website, both my http://www.bookmarket.com website and this network have been rising in Alexa ranks (and visits) because of my use of Twitter.

Just went on the Reader's Reviews site and requested a book review. I got lucky when she said yes and even more so when my review got picked up by syndicated press. I've been told this is a rare feat so of course I'm incredibly happy. I've been contacted by three news agencies already. What fun!!

Wow! Chicago Sun Times!
Hi everyone

I am proud and ecstatic to announce the publishing of my book, "Clear Your Focus, Grow Your Business." It has been a two year labor of love. It is a non-fiction book written for solo small business owners who are experts at their profession or craft and also need to be an expert at running their business. it is handbook with empowering exercises and simple step-by-step processes. It is only for sale on my website for now as it is an intregal part of my business and I am less interested in being a best selling author and more interested in the book helping me grow my own business and funnel people into my membership website. I am interested in any information about affiliate sales, finding good websites in this regard. Thanks for any help or ideas. Kaya
Congrats Kaya!! Sounds like you have a great book and I will certainly pass along anything I find that seems fit.
Thanks Sarah

Marketing is different for a non-fiction book like this than for a novel. So I am open to any ideas!
You are so right that marketing is different, but there are many marketing strategies that you can use that apply to all types of books. Joining social networking groups, direct mail campaigns, mass email marketing campaigns, free press releases, etc can all apply! Good luck with your endeavors.
Thanks Angel

I am doing a lot of what you mentioned which is how I found this site :)
I have just hired a PR person to develop a media kit for me. I can write but PR writing is way different and it is all about contacts. One thing I want to do is travel to other cities and give presentations to small business groups. I am trying to figure out how to find contacts in places I have never been to. Thanks for your support.
My brother owns a fitness center in town and would be glad to have you come and do a presentation. He holds a business meeting once a week because he is also a speaker who gives professional advice about successful businesses and holds meetings for individuals in small business groups. Contact him if you like. David Henderson: 334-727-4123. I will let him know that you may be calling him before you call..
The marketing strategies that I have been using thus far is sending out information about my book via direct mail. I have also sent out information via mass email campaigns. I have joined numerous social networking sites, and I have also found numerous sites online where authors can advertise their book for FREE! If you google: free advertising for authors, or free press releases, you will find a few sites that allow you to advertise for free. Of course, you can always upgrade on these sites and take advantage of other advertising tools. I actually created a free website via Yola, and it actually looks pretty good. Check it out: http://www.thegreatx-cape.com. I did have to pay $19.95 for the hosting fee, but that's not bad for a nice professional website. At Yola, you will need to upgrade if you want to do other things, such as put up a youtube video, etc. Everywhere I go, I take a few of my books in my briefcase, just in case I run across someone that I can tell and show about my book. I have given a few books away as a promotional tool because the more people that read my book, the more people they will tell that will potentially buy my book. I contacted radio stations, and television stations via direct mail. I sent them flyers, bookmarks, business cards, and letters. Blog talk radio is free radio network where you may be able to find radio hosts who are interested in allowing you to appear as a guest on their show. I have actually done three live radio interviews with men empowered radio show. People underestimate the power of blog talk radio, and they don't realize how many people actually listen to the radio shows there. After I have done all that I can do, praying and trusting God has been the primary key to my success. At this time, my book is offered through numerous national book distributors, and I anticipate great returns for my efforts.
Not sure about Yola- but I know a lot of those free, build it yourself sites are not worth it because they get horrible optimization because of the tabled templates. It is way better to build yourself a Word Press site. Very easy to do and a regular web host is only $7 month, not $19.95.

Good to hear about blog radio. I want to do that. If I wasn't so busy....

Neil - what do you do with the postcards? Who do you send them to .....
I actually set up my "free" website on Yola! I paid $19.95 for one year of hosting and the site doesn't look bad at all. I will have to upgrade if I plan to include a video and/or other widgets, but for now, it's what I am using..

Thanks for sharing your site. I love your photo! I would encourage you to make the text not all capitol letters as it is harder to read and all caps tends to have the feeling that one is being screamed at. ( I know you aren't:)
