The Book Marketing Network

For book/ebook authors, publishers, & self-publishers

I'd like to start a new forum where people can talk about what's working for you right now in marketing your book.

I think this will help other authors to prioritize their activities if they can find out what's working for other people. This would be especially valuable to new authors.

I've share the hottest tool that I'm using right now. And that's Twitter. As you will note on the main page of this Book Marketing Network website, both my http://www.bookmarket.com website and this network have been rising in Alexa ranks (and visits) because of my use of Twitter.

You should never be skeptical about buying my book. It's worth every penny, and much more. Even if you only get 3 new ideas that work for marketing your book.

And you will get far more ideas than just 3.

I totally agree. As a self-published author, marketing and advertising ideas are invaluable. I will plan to purchase your book in the near future. I am certain that I will find the information extremely helpful.
I agree! I tell every author to get a copy.

You never know what might work best in marketing your own book, so Kremer's book gives you lots and lots of ways to go about it so that you can narrow down what might work for you.
Well something must be working for him since he created this site! Being on this site alone has helped me to network and gain useful marketing strategies and information.
I'm glad that this site is helping you to network with other authors. That's why I created it.
I bought John's book two years ago. I love it. It's worth every penny. There is so much that I still haven't got to all the ideas you give. Now that my third book being a sequel is completed, I plan to stop writing awhile and promote the last two books. They are about losing my husband and daughter from alcoholism.

I'm speaking at the Mothers of Ministry to 70 women and two priest Saturday. I've been to alcoholic rehabs, halfway homes, libraries and wherever I can be heard.
Much luck in your endeavors!
You're such an inspiration to all of us - always out there helping people and getting your books into the hands of people who need them. Praying for you for your Mothers of Ministry meeting. Make sure to let us know how it goes!
I will. Thank you for caring.
Hi Steve,
I'm letting everyone know how I did at the speaking engagement for Mothers of Ministry. I met wonderful women that I doubt came to the age of 40. I was comfortable from the first meeting.
I met Fr. Joe who went to Medjugorje ten times. I went in 1998 so I enjoyed him sharing the updates.
The women gave me a standing ovation twice. They were overwhelmed with the talk. I've been lucky having that effect on the groups.
As for sale of my book, I was disappointed this time. I only sold four, which a normal amount in a group is 20-30. But, two women decided to buy one book for the ministry so that cut the sales.
As always, I keep an open mind with Networking. I had this event from going to a tiny craft show with four other authors last December and the woman kept my business card.
Another woman took my media kit to pass to another organization that looks for speakers. Networking is what gets your name out there.
All in all, I was thrilled meeting this group of women from the Catholic organization. They already want me to speak at their banquet next year.
Alberta,

Wow! Two standing ovations?!? That may be a feat unequaled among authors!

Concerning disappointing sales, you simply never know about these events. I spoke at a university gathering last year and sold only one book. I think the girl felt sorry for me. Other times I'm like a celebrity. You just never know.

And I appreciate your insight on networking. After I speak, I have a response card that asks what they liked, what I can do better, and do they know any other places that might like to have me speak. I also ask the organizer (if I don't forget), "If you were doing what I'm doing, how would you go about selling more books or finding new speaking opportunities?"

People like folks asking them for advice. Makes them feel important and useful. And makes us wiser.
Hi Steve,

I didn't think about it as being unusual for authors to get two standing ovations. I have to admit, it was my first.

A woman who went to my talk for 150 women and a priest at the Magnificat (a Catholic Woman's Ministry) at the Providence Marriott Hotel in Rhode Island, said to me, "I come to every event, and you had to be the best speaker that I have ever heard." Mind you, I had ten pages hidden on the podium top while talking. She turned out to be the president of their Boston (MA) Chapter and had me speak there last December. Did wonderful with sales.

Networking is the most important goal for me, Steve. I had someone at the Boston Chapter ask me to talk to their religion class to the elementary kids on alcohol abuse. I thought, "Hum, how do I handle ten or so young children?" She said, "We don't have many, maybe 2,000 all together!" She is supposed to call me and I'm trying to put the program together.

My husband was a manager of a car dealership for over 30 years, and he has some wonderful ideas on communicating. He's going to be my side kick with some of this.

I believe if you get into the organizations that have a lot of members, you do great networking. There always seems to be someone. That's why I really make myself mingle within a group before or after an engagement.

My response questions on paper work great at my workshops. With the speaking engagements, I find having a 8X10 paper made up with the pictures of my book(s), a "small" synopsis of each, where to buy them, the price and the ISBN#, your name, website and email, it works wonderful. I try to note "How" they will benefit from buying my book because people want to know what they will get out of buying it.

People forget you very easily when the talk is over. If they have this handout, (I have even put one on each chair in the room), they can look it over when they get home. In fact, they're happy they have something from you. Add a few points of interest from your talk to the handout. That's a good way to show them how your book can help them.

I'm far from an expert coming home with lots of money but I'm trying. In a woman's organization, I can come home with between $200-$600. Each dollar adds to my purchase of my other books.

Another author told me, "Writing is the easy part. Promoting and marketing is the test." How right she was!
