51 Ways to Blog as a Novelist

We all know that blogging is one of the best ways to get attention in today's Internet world. A blog is a godsend to your website, bringing it traffic, fans, and more. But you have to post regularly.

Stuck for what to blog about? Here are some tips for novelists, but the same tips can apply to writers of nonfiction, memoirs, children's books, business books, and more.

  1. Review other novels, especially from other lesser-known novelists.
  2. Write a blog post using the voice of one of your main characters.
  3. Have that main character tell some side stories not included in the novel.
  4. Write about the setting - time and/or place. Use some of the research you did to ensure that your novel was accurate.
  5. Invite your readers to review your book. Feature their testimonials on your blog.
  6. Interview some of your readers: via Q&A text or via an Internet radio show or via a teleseminar.
  7. Podcast your book, one section at a time.
  8. Write about trends in your genre.
  9. Write about your favorite novelists, especially those that write in your genre. Include their photos and a sampling of their books.

Review;
The Spanish Witch by Anne Herries
http://bookywooks.blogspot.com/2010/07/forbidden-romance.html

"What a great fast-paced thrill for a lazy, rainy afternoon. Once I picked this book up I couldn't put it down until I had reached the heart stopping end.
Strictly speaking this book is classified as a romance novel, but in my opinion it should be shifted to the historical fiction pile. Yes there is romance, and it is cheek-reddening romance, but this book also has a rich dose of English history thrown in to make it a very entertaining, and very enthralling read."

OK... in my own inimitable way, I've screwed up again... At least, I've found, in my $%@ years of life that I seldom screw up the same way twice... except with women...That's the GOOD news... The bad news being that I'm actually quite resourceful at finding NEW ways to screw up! I posted my three encounters with Sasquatch in what I saw as three separate places... all under crytozoology on my website... Being new to this provider, I have done SOMETHING wrong and they are all appearing under one heading... so, the reader gets a 3 fer 1 punch on it... Oh well, I was going to announce all three posts this week anyway... so I just did it early... Please Enjoy and leave me a note... Thom

To John, going by "Joy," as a pename. I was curious, John, why you would use a girl's penname. It created confusion for me. I like your website with the pictures and your interesting background in India. My older daughter is adopted from Nepal, so I have a personal interest in that part of the world. Your books look interesting, though I would make one suggestion. At times in the synopsis, it was hard for me to tell what was lore, what was truth, and what was your novel. Perhaps you could clarify some of the things you talk about. Very interesting plot.
