The Book Marketing Network

For book/ebook authors, publishers, & self-publishers

Hello, Everyone!

I am collaborating with a psychologist on a workbook, or companion book, based on my original book, "Life is Like Making Chocolate Chip Cookies."

Do you feel that there needs to be a contract on all collaborations?

Where does one find a contract or how is one written to protect both parties?

I have no idea what should go into a contract between collaborators on a book. I feel everything should be 50/50.

Anyone with answers, comments, or suggestions for me?

Thank you!

You might check with Taryn Simpson here on this network. I did an interview with her on her book Mango Tree Cafe on which she collaborated with a gent who's in another country. I would definitely put a contract in place.
Thank you for the input. I will go to her profile now. I appreciate your help!
I would always prefer to have a contract in place to protect all parties as well as set out clearly parameters, royalties, splits, etc.

Here is a great example of a simple collaboration contract:

Thank you so much! I am going right now to check out the contract. I felt a contract needed to be drawn up. I just didn't know how to do it.

Thank you again!
I knew I had studied collaboration somewhere and just couldn't remember where, but found it on my old computer - http://www.ivanhoffman.com/coauthors.html

There are also links in the article itself for some good reviews and explanations of how and why to do a collaborator contract.
I checked it out and it indeed has lots of good information in it. Thank you for helping me out this way!
