51 Ways to Blog as a Novelist

We all know that blogging is one of the best ways to get attention in today's Internet world. A blog is a godsend to your website, bringing it traffic, fans, and more. But you have to post regularly.

Stuck for what to blog about? Here are some tips for novelists, but the same tips can apply to writers of nonfiction, memoirs, children's books, business books, and more.

  1. Review other novels, especially from other lesser-known novelists.
  2. Write a blog post using the voice of one of your main characters.
  3. Have that main character tell some side stories not included in the novel.
  4. Write about the setting - time and/or place. Use some of the research you did to ensure that your novel was accurate.
  5. Invite your readers to review your book. Feature their testimonials on your blog.
  6. Interview some of your readers: via Q&A text or via an Internet radio show or via a teleseminar.
  7. Podcast your book, one section at a time.
  8. Write about trends in your genre.
  9. Write about your favorite novelists, especially those that write in your genre. Include their photos and a sampling of their books.

I was on talk radio for my book, Birthing the Lucifer star, by d e bartley, I love to plug it now, and I've enjoyed watching people read my book, it's been read thousands of times on line. I also wrote an anthology Scifi sunday's with the hipriestess, 5 cent tales, it's wacky and it was fun to delve into scifi ala lovecraft, or hubbard, some crowley thrown in, things that go bump in your head....

I've just released my first self-pulished novel, Breathless, and it's been quite a journey to this point. Initial reaction has been very good (see review below), but as most of us know, marketing counts more than quality. I'm keeping my fingers crossed as the journey continues.

Breathless a modern fantasy/romance in the mode of Twilight and Vampire Diaries, with enough new ideas to interest and excite even the most devoted fans.

“A riveting tale of passion, danger and forbidden love. Breathless breathes new life into the vampire genre." Rene C. Fountain, BookFetish.org

Weston College freshman Leesa Nyland has been fascinated by vampires since she was three years old. That’s when her mom started acting weird, insisting sunlight hurt her skin because she’d been bitten by a one-fanged vampire.
But fascinated doesn’t mean Leesa believes. Any more than she believes in blue fire, people who live for centuries, and kisses that can kill. But when her beloved older brother disappears after warning Leesa not to come looking for him, she is forced to consider all these and more...

My second novel 'The Ayurvedic Healer' is released.

This novel is the story of an Ayurvedic Physician. Ayurveda is, an ancient medical science generated in India. When I thought of writing about an Ayurvedic Physician, I remembered my ancestor, who had converted into Christianity from Brahminhood (An upper division in Hindu religion). Except this fact, remaining narrations are fictitious. I have created a mythological atmosphere throughout the novel. Freedom struggle of India, Communist revolt in Kerala, a Southern State in India, social developments, emergence of new societies etc., are dominating in this novel. The novel reveals the developments of incident that happening from 1920 to 1960. Although this is not a historical novel, nevertheless I am trying to unveil the personal life of an Ayurvedic Physician who had lived for the downtrodden people.
