The Book Marketing Network

For book/ebook authors, publishers, & self-publishers

I'd like to start a new forum where people can talk about what's working for you right now in marketing your book.

I think this will help other authors to prioritize their activities if they can find out what's working for other people. This would be especially valuable to new authors.

I've share the hottest tool that I'm using right now. And that's Twitter. As you will note on the main page of this Book Marketing Network website, both my http://www.bookmarket.com website and this network have been rising in Alexa ranks (and visits) because of my use of Twitter.

Thank you so much for the info. I recently signed up for Shelfari but had no idea how to use it to my advantage.
What's working for me is a month-long BOOK GIVEAWAY highlighting the books of my authors & authors each day. My Daily Book Giveaway (which runs through 9/19/10) is building my blog's opt-ins, initiating new Facebook Friends, and introducing me to book bloggers who are interested in hosting my clients as guests. Both readers & industry folks are coming out for this. For a sample of what's working, check out today's giveaway at

Stephanie - Have you ever seen any of these work in the Christian/religious genre? Is so, which "tools" were the most effective?
When you say "my clients," are you with a particular publishing company?
I have noticed a bigger difference with Facebook than Twitter. You can post notes on Facebook with a picture of your book cover, add a collection of photos to be viewed, and add book trailers. I tend to get a bigger following and more requests to be "friends" on Facebook. Maybe it's because they are friends with someone that I'm "friends" with, so they become interested, or they have searched for me on their own. I don't know how they find me. Anyway, Facebook seems to bring about more requests for friends than Twitter.
Linda,

Are you doing this with the regular section of Facebook, or have you set up a fan page (now called simply "pages") to talk about your books?
I only have the regular Facebook, but for some reason people are finding me. I began with relatives and then it's gradually spreading. I'm not well known yet, though, so it's just people who have met me at my workshops that I teach throughout the U.S.
I forgot to mention that there is something else that I'm doing that seems to be working real good. Every Monday I post an interview of an author with a book give away. This seems to attract a lot of people to my site because they want to meet a new author and perhaps win a free book. I just ask the commenter to post something they liked about the interview. My blog is a "Family Friendly" blog and I only post books that are for children, young adults, and adults who want to read clean books. It's fun and I get to know so many authors this way. I've found out that many authors are just as human as I am. I love it. In fact, I've been receiving requests from authors, asking if I would interview them and have a book give away of their book. I even had a few "best-selling" authors ask for an interview. So far, I'm now booked up until December. I never imagined this would become so popular. I just thought I would do it for fun, hoping to draw attention to my blog. By the way, we're here to help one another, right? So if there are any authors here at Book Marketing Network that would like me to interview them and let my followers get to know you, I would be glad to. My blog site is http://lindaweaverclarke.blogspot.com.
Great site Linda. I am going to recomend my brother-in-law Kevin Dove check your site out. He has a children's book "Sir Nick Of Tyme" contact you.

Linda . . . Great idea. Something I've been recommending to people on this network a number of times. It's a great way to get repeat visitors to your author's website while providing other author's with exposure. A double win.
What I dont like is that you spend years making the book just to spend more years making someone read it. The fight never ends.
What is working really well for me is participating in blog challenges. Typically they are 30-days long and require that you blog at least 30 times during the 30 days.

Participants of the blog challenge help one another by tweeting and retweeting with a link to your blog post.

I'm currently participating in my fourth blog challenge in six months. My twitter followers have doubled (current at 2324), my subscribers have quintupled and the number of people who retweet my comments seems to grow weekly.

My connections and friendships have grown through my participation and my business is growing due to being seen on the social networks by more people and being introduced to "movers and shakers" in my industry.
