51 Ways to Blog as a Novelist

We all know that blogging is one of the best ways to get attention in today's Internet world. A blog is a godsend to your website, bringing it traffic, fans, and more. But you have to post regularly.

Stuck for what to blog about? Here are some tips for novelists, but the same tips can apply to writers of nonfiction, memoirs, children's books, business books, and more.

  1. Review other novels, especially from other lesser-known novelists.
  2. Write a blog post using the voice of one of your main characters.
  3. Have that main character tell some side stories not included in the novel.
  4. Write about the setting - time and/or place. Use some of the research you did to ensure that your novel was accurate.
  5. Invite your readers to review your book. Feature their testimonials on your blog.
  6. Interview some of your readers: via Q&A text or via an Internet radio show or via a teleseminar.
  7. Podcast your book, one section at a time.
  8. Write about trends in your genre.
  9. Write about your favorite novelists, especially those that write in your genre. Include their photos and a sampling of their books.

EXCELLENT BOOK ILLUSTRATOR - taking on work right now:

Steve Daniels - Born: Wilmington, N.C. Dec. 22,1946. stevedaniels@citcom.net

Steve began his career in 1963. While in high school he prepared artist renderings for architects. After graduating from New Hanover High in 1965, Steve took a year of mechanical drafting at Cape Fear Technical Institute, then joined the Air Force. Assigned as staff artist for Tactical Air Command at Langley A.F.B. Va., he prepared graphic presentations and artist concepts of Top Secret aircraft. After reading the General’s speech, Steve would have to visualize certain paragraphs, illustrate them and photograph them into 35MM slide presentations.

On leaving the Air Force, Steve began working as the Art Director for the publications department of the Medical University of South Carolina. He designed and supervised production of brochures, booklets, posters and other printed material used by the eight colleges in the University.

He moved back to North Carolina to become Art Director for the audio visuals department at Cape Fear Technical Institute. In this position, he prepared slide and film presentations, including animation for teaching. Steve then transferred to the North Carolina Marine Resources Centers as Exhibit Specialist where he combined his many skills to design and build exhibits for three marine science museums. He became a certified diver and underwater photographer. This helped tremendously in preparing marine life exhibits. This job required a Masters degree or equivalent experience.

Steve and his wife Carol, now operate their own art studio in Cashiers, North Carolina. Steve specializes in trompe l’oeil (fool the eye) murals. His combination of drafting and technical illustration, along with his experience in dioramas and murals for museums, makes this a natural transition. He also paints waterfalls of North Carolina and has several in print.

He still does paintings of aircraft for pilots, aviation museums and aircraft companies and after completing a painting of the TBF-Avenger that President George Bush flew in WW II, was invited to the White House where he presented it to the President. Steve’s specialty is in preparing greatly detailed paintings of historical events. Because of this, he has been commissioned to do paintings of Navy ships by their associations.

Steve prepares book illustrations, graphic art for advertising agencies and is invited by underwater archaeologists from time to time to prepare illustrations of underwater sites. He also does the editorial cartoons for the Cashiers, NC newspaper.

He has written one “young adult” novel and is working on six more. He has also written and illustrated fourteen children’s books. Three have been “self” published. His desire is to write and illustrate children’s books for the rest of his life.

END.  SHARE WITH OTHERS.

I'm an historical fiction author who loves to write almost as much as I love to read. You can find more about me and my books at: www.marionmarchetto.com - I recently had the opportunity to speak to some local 8th grade classes during Literacy Week and I believe I made a connection with at least 3 of the students who were interested not only in reading but in writing as well.

I am a member of the Emerald Coast Writers Group in NW Florida. Hope to attend this year's conference in April and pitch my new series to agents and/or publishers. Desperately in search of an agent who is willing to take a risk on me.

Always on the lookout for easy, low-cost ways to sell more of my books but be warned - I am not comfortable with selling myself to others. I do it, and I'm getting better at it, but I don't like it.
