Could some of you share your experiences with services that format ebooks for Kindle for those of us who lack the skills to do it ourselves? Thanks

Marie,

Amazon.com has now evidently made it quite simple. From what I understand, you can just upload a .pdf of your book to Amazon, and they do all the rest. Then, when your book sells, they collect the money, pay you 70 percent of the retail price, and they keep 30 percent. Easy!

Thanks, Mary. Appreciate the information. Marie
Marie, I've used both Joshua Tallent at ebookarchitects.com and Bob Mehta at ebookconversion.com and they are both great. If you want to see a listing of lots of people and companies who do these conversion, check this out: http://www.ebookconversiondirectory.com  Hope that helps!
Thanks, Joel. I was thinking of maybe using Joshua. I'm glad to hear you had a good experience with him.  Marie

Converting to the kindle can be very easy and converting to epub can be even easier. I do it myself all the time just for fun. There are some tips you can find online but I'll give you several right now. 1) for the kindle it helps to own one. By the way, they don't convert PDF's very well. Not nearly as easy as WORD documents. 2) download mobipocket creator for free and mobipocket reader (I forget if they come together in the same download). 3) make sure your word document is formatted properly. For instance no tabs for paragraphs and no use of the enter key to create new pages (use page breaks) 4) connect kindle to computer 5) upload word file into mobi from its browser 6) click "build it" 7) and then click read in mobipocket reader 8) send to kindle (Before you eject kindle, go into the kindle ebook file, find your document and drop it in the kindle document folder and then eject kindle 9) Now peruse on your device. This is most likely what your title will look like to others. Sounds difficult but I don't print anymore. I upload to my kindle. Cheaper than printing.

I recently had someone ask me that question.  Here are a few options I suggested:  http://www.self-publishing-coach.com/kindle-ebook-template.html

Sounds like you already have a couple great options to outsource this task :)  Good luck!
