The Book Marketing Network

For book/ebook authors, publishers, & self-publishers

I'd like to start a new forum where people can talk about what's working for you right now in marketing your book.

I think this will help other authors to prioritize their activities if they can find out what's working for other people. This would be especially valuable to new authors.

I've share the hottest tool that I'm using right now. And that's Twitter. As you will note on the main page of this Book Marketing Network website, both my http://www.bookmarket.com website and this network have been rising in Alexa ranks (and visits) because of my use of Twitter.

The thing that works absolutely the best for me is personal sales at programs I give.

Joan,

Can you give us more detail? Exactly what kinds of programs do you give and what works to sell books there? I'll be doing some talks on the subject of my books in the future, so I'm eager to learn more.

Hi Steve- I am the first woman (and only-so far) to hike the entire North Country Trail (4400 miles). I give programs about my adventures, and also nature programs, and some "women in the outdoors" things.

It creates the exact credibility I need to sell the books. People hear that I am funny, and they like my pix...  so they are more likely to believe that the book isn't another boring hike journal.

Cool that you did devotionals as well. And you've got a great price on the book, considering that you've got color pictures inside. Did you get it printed overseas?

Nope- printed locally (in my state). Didn't do as big a markup as is suggested because it needs to be affordable. The cover was a problem. The proofs were great, but then they subcontracted it, and the result is shifted to pink- they gave me a nice refund because the only other choice was to grind off the bindings and re-issue with a smaller gutter.

I didn't like that and had a promised delivery deadline, so I took the refund.

Joan,

I understand completely! Publishing is such a mound of details! Then, just when you think things are going smoothly, Murphy's Law gets unleashed! At least that's the way it tends to happen to me.

Congrats for hanging in there!

Good for you! Wow, to have that much energy!!
I did it over a lot of years, but mostly I'm just a hiking fool- can't stay out of the woods.
Just think of the exercise you are doing. A road to nothing but good health.

Hey guys, what I have found that is working for my book "God Expects Perfect? " is the use of facebook, the members are from all over the world, I write about a Chapter topic the expound even further than that which is in my original book. I also started a relaxed but serious page on facebook for pre-married and married called "Christian Marriage Forever" where I share recepies , weekly events, original quotes, and exhort couples to look for ways to show love to each other, keeping a perspective of faithfulness always between one man and one woman. ~ randy hignight sr.

I hope everyone can help me with this.  I find with my FB that I'm getting mostly friends and family, whom I love, but I want to reach authors and people to help me with speaking engagements and all.  Is there a section in FB for this?

I'm having more people in Linkedin contact me with business opportunities.

I appreciate any leads.
