The Book Marketing Network

For book/ebook authors, publishers, & self-publishers

I'd like to start a new forum where people can talk about what's working for you right now in marketing your book.

I think this will help other authors to prioritize their activities if they can find out what's working for other people. This would be especially valuable to new authors.

I've share the hottest tool that I'm using right now. And that's Twitter. As you will note on the main page of this Book Marketing Network website, both my http://www.bookmarket.com website and this network have been rising in Alexa ranks (and visits) because of my use of Twitter.

Hello Aileen,

Where do you go on Twitter to find the section for networking?

Thanks!

There are also several very useful and FREE tools that will help make Tweeting more efficient and productive. Below are two that I know of.

DigitaLeapord (http://www.digitaleopard.com/) provides useful information on who you are following and if they are following you. With the information you can effectively manage your Twitter following (i.e., if they don't follow you, why follow them?).

TweetExtra (http://www.tweetextra.com/) allows you to organize a targeted conversation via Twitter and then re-market and share that conversation without having to worry about losing it in the social media stream (i.e., you can save the conversation in HTML format and reuse it). It is also makes the Tweets SEO friendly, since the resulting transcript is in HTML format. I think that this tool in particular is completely underutilized.

Ah, digitaleopard.com seems to have changed its spots. I didn't see any sort of Twitter app on the website. Alas.
Thank you for this great tool! I used to consider Twitter as something celebs used to rant to gain attention. Now that I see the value, I am going to try out some of you techniques.
HI John
I downloaded the Tweet book but it looks strange on both my monitor and Ipad. The print lines are off the page on both the left and right sides of the pages. This makes it rather difficult to read. on the left side, it looks like 7 or 8 characters are off-screen and I can't tell how many are missing on the left. This same formatting error occurs in GoodReader so it appears to be a file problem
Please disregard my reply about the formatting. I converted you .doc file to a .pdf to read it on my Ipad and something got messed up in the process. The origininal downloaded file is fine

One of the biggest mistakes I made early on when using Twitter was that I did not realize that the best part of Twitter was what I could learn from others.  I used it as a forum to talk. Now I use it as a forum to listen.

Yes, Twitter postings and shares help my website rankings and searchability.  Yes, I have been "found" more easily and by more people because of it.  Yes, the contacts I have made have been invaluable... but that all happened when I started treating Twitter as a conversation and not a podium.  It has been a godsend since that day.

Thank you! I am new here and to writing and to everything. I am simply overwhelmed with it all! Trying to self market a book is challenging and fun. I am going to apply some of these tips to Twitter. Thank you!

Thanks for that, it's awesome. When i look at my traffic logs i see the majority of my social media traffic coming from LinkedIn then Facebook, then Stumble then YouTube. I'm not seeing any clickthroughs from Twitter so i've been wondering if it's a waste of time!?

I have found Pinterest works to drive the most traffic these days. Then Facebook and search engines. Twitter is way down the list. Alas.

Hi John,

I started promoting my second memoirs a year ago. It's about losing my husband to alcoholism. The title is Someone Stop This Merry-Go-Round; An Alcoholic Family in Crisis. I did speaking engagements in rehabilitation centers, half-way homes and any organization wanting to hear my story about losing my husband from this illness.

Now I'm visiting the locations to introduce the new book they have been waiting for because of the promoting. I'm also advertise that the sequel will be out this year, Please, God, Not Two; This Killer Called Alcoholism. It's about losing my daughter in 2006 from the same demon.

So my way of promoting is getting out there way before the book is due out and getting involved with locations that relate to my topic.

I'm due to go on my second cable TV and radio show because of my topic. After two years (working with the first memoir A Healing Heart; A Spiritual Renewal) I feel my hard work is just starting to open doors for me. This one is about my relationship with my dad who was a Brigadier General and my pilgrimage to Medjugorje in Bosnia.

I talked at the Magnificat, a Catholic Woman's Ministry, at the Providence Marriott Hotel in Rhode Island for an hour. I sold 26 books and got invited to their Boston location in December. This is the importance of networking. I'm learning I need the Christian locations to talk about my first book.

I guess authors have to decide where their books fit in best with an audience. I'm just starting to see the benefits of knocking on the right doors in the right neighborhoods.

I hope this helps others with my information.
