The Book Marketing Network

For book/ebook authors, publishers, & self-publishers

I'm working on promotions for my novel. My question is how to reach readers at large? I'm active in various forums online but they're populated by writers. Locally, I'm starting to get known in the community and find that the vast public is in a bit awe of writers and that this could help build a reader base. But again the question is how to reach readers like this on a grass root budget?

I do have a couple of local speaking engagements lined up so far and am trying to explore ideas more.

HI Julie,
I'm in a similar boat. I started locally and now I'm reaching out regionally (50+ mile). I try to speak at libraries, schools, local book group. Online book groups are a new frontier for me. Get to know your local newspaper folks. See if you can write a story or two, do a column. Hope some of this helps.
All the best to you and much success. - Rita
Hi Rita,
Oh that's good hear. I've just been working on a speech on digital publishing for a local library. I guess I need to continue to look for other things to talk about at community organizations.I like your suggestion about the newspaper. I have a little in with one paper, at least I know someone there. I've been kicking around a column idea. Maybe this is the time to explore it mores. Thanks.

If you write articles I would recommend submitting them to various sites. One site that I have found to be valuable is the American Chronicle and their online family of 21 newspapers. They have a wide readership and you can get exposure for your writing. Another area where you may get some ideas is through my web site www.myqualitywriting.com which offers sources of information for marketing opportunities, promotion and articles by other writers other than myself. I would also suggest if you have not already participate in the www.writersweekly.com forum. There is a wealth of experience on this site and you can ask a question and receive great information in response. Depending upon the type of novel it is will provide some choices. If you book is a childrens story I would contact libraries and search for sites that cater to children. There are many. If you book is not for children I would look at who the intended audience is and go to the sites where their readership is that segment of society.
Hi Dennis,
Thanks you for the suggestions. I have a bunch of articles I've written in my day job as a freelance business writer. Maybe some of them could be repackaged just for that bio link author at the bottom. I didn't really think much about that 'til I saw your reply. That's what so great about this place. We can kick around ideas and get out of our head a bit and learn and share.

Thanks again for the resources. I'll check out the links.

Julie
