For book/ebook authors, publishers, & self-publishers
Hi all,
I am new to the forum. I am a first time author and my manuscript for my non-fiction business/finance book called "Profit Rocket" has just entered the design and production stage which I am very excited about! The launch on Amazon, B&N etc is scheduled for Sept 2012.
I obviously want the book to be hugely successful, what author doesn't after all! Whilst the launch is some time away, I am working on a comprehensive marketing strategy and plan now. I want to be proactive and really leverage off social media as much as possible.
I am having a closer look at Goodreads and Librarything at the moment and would be interested in hearing strategies that have worked and what haven;t from authors that have used these platforms in raising the profiles of your books.
Hope you can help
Best regards
Kelly Clifford

I've just signed up for goodreads myself, and have yet to see what will happen once my series is ready. But I left reviews on a number of books, including two that impacted me before I began writing my series. One of those authors has already "liked" my review. I'm using the "write a chapter" section to introduce my book and recently added an availability "chapter". I'm debating if I'll do the book giveaway thing or not.
Hello!
You can offer giveaways through Goodreads, and I've seen 1000 entries for a handful of books, building buzz. Good luck, all!
Best,
Diane
I have yet to figure out how to do anything on Goodreads that actually does much good, promotionally. You can only tout your book in one place on the forum, so who reads that? Probably no one. I played some games for a while, but there's no way to let anyone there know you wrote a book, unless they get interested in who you are and check out your profile. I occasionally get a comment on my blog feed that goes there, but it's usually from one of the moderators.
I do have my books listed and they have a few reviews, so that has to be somewhat helpful.
