The Book Marketing Network

For book/ebook authors, publishers, & self-publishers

I'd like to start a new forum where people can talk about what's working for you right now in marketing your book.

I think this will help other authors to prioritize their activities if they can find out what's working for other people. This would be especially valuable to new authors.

I've share the hottest tool that I'm using right now. And that's Twitter. As you will note on the main page of this Book Marketing Network website, both my http://www.bookmarket.com website and this network have been rising in Alexa ranks (and visits) because of my use of Twitter.

Great idea!

Hi y'awl.  I just want to reiterate again how important a basic website is.  I've had an uptick in website hits the last two days and that has correlated with my Silent Fear going from about an overall #20,000 sales ranking to this today...and it spilled over to the first novel, too:

SILENT FEAR: a Medical Mystery

Amazon Best Sellers Rank: #899 Paid in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Paid in Kindle Store)
#5 in Books > Mystery, Thriller & Suspense > Thrillers > Medical
#5 in Kindle Store > Kindle eBooks > Mystery, Thriller & Suspense > Thrillers > Medical

Operation Neurosurgeon

Amazon Best Sellers Rank: #6,663 Paid in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Paid in Kindle Store)

#19 in Kindle Store > Kindle eBooks > Mystery, Thriller & Suspense > Thrillers > Medical

    #19 in Books > Mystery, Thriller & Suspense > Thrillers > Medical

#21 in Kindle Store > Kindle eBooks > Literature & Fiction > Genre Fiction > Medical

So....hope you all create or polish your sites!

Thanks John :-)

Yes! Just like with visual art, never discard any bit or bob - you can always recycle it ;)

4-LAN, a customer just told us your review was helpful to them while shopping on Amazon.

:)

It is certainly hard and a very tricky balance between bashing people on the head with your book, and taking a genuine interest in the communities around you. I don`t think people mean to plug their book aggressively, I think its just down to the genuine excitement of finishing a book and wanting to share it with the world. Making good money would be nice too but you should be motivated by the passion of creation in my humble opinion. Money follows, if it does, in time.

I have just started to use twitter, slow start but I am beginning to meet very cool people. Its a marathon not a race for sure, and my newbie advice? Market as well as you can but WRITE THAT SECOND OR THIRD BOOK!!!! You never know what will grab the imagination of the masses. I think if your too precious with the first attempt, you wont move on for fear of failure. Good luck everyone, a true joy to be part of this website.

I agree - I have noticed that most book series/authors don;t really take off until the third book or later. It's that back catalog that helps bring in sales because people buy one book from you and then go buy the others. If you just have one they buy one and stop because there's no other option.

I have had really good luck with free short stories on barnes & noble. I haven't tried this on amazon, though, as I had one free short that got constant nasty reviews because it was a short and not a "full novel" so I was always afraid to try them there.

I am way late and replying to your comment, Andrew. You are so right about writing that other book. I have written 3 memoirs, 1 Narrative Non-Fiction and working on my first fictional. One odd book we write, could catch the eye of readers and have them want our others.

I have to take time out to learn how to network on Twitter. I use to do better by having a daily task form for each day on what to do to make the time. I somehow got off it. From Monday-Sunday, I had each day to answer emails, promote and market, get into chat rooms, put out Press Releases, contact the media, spend time on my new book, etc. It went so smoothly. Now I am back to missing the opportunity to be organized and getting more done.

If you leave a comment-that will definitely work for me :-)

What's working for me is helping indie authors on this site, as well as a small publishing company. I review books in the genres of fantasy, horror and science fiction and strive for my most recent blog to receive the most number of views yet.

Help me make this vision a reality, and in so doing, you will help your fellow author with their own book sales.

Who knows, I could be promoting your book next.

I am working for you!
