The Book Marketing Network

For book/ebook authors, publishers, & self-publishers

I started this discussion on Published Authors and thought authors here might be interested in reading this article:

In the world of self-publishing, authors tend to have unrealistic expectations so it comes as a refreshing change to read about the financial difficulties facing self-published authors written by someone with experience in banking.

I found this "Handling Your Finances – Lessons from an Author in Transition by Lynnette Khalfani" very informative and helpful:

If you ever thought that receiving an advance for a three book deal would solve all your financial problems -- think again!

Very helpful, Shelagh.

It's easy to miss out on the fact that when you take off the "writer hat" (which probably has a propeller on top of it) and put on the "business hat" you have to start dealing with different realities. It's great to get some tips from that angle.
I appeciate this article. I have done a lot of research and this tends to confirm what I have heard. Self publishing is a tough road to go and even after getting accepted by a big publishing house, it can be tough. All the money goes to push their established authors.
