Big Green Purse goes on sale, but needs more exposure

Hello, All -

My latest book (Big Green Purse: Use Your Spending Power to Create a Cleaner, Greener World) went on sale March 1. Thus far, publicity has been good, but I'm looking for ways to increase sales. There's tremendous competition - there are a lot of "green" books hitting the market right now. My message is very different than the others, as I focus on ways can use their consumer clout to protect the environment. Still, it's tough to break through. I've been thinking about ways to arrange special sales and get beyond book stores. Does anyone have any experience with tactics like these? Thanks so much (and I invite you all to check out my other site, at oneinamillion.ning.com).

All I can say is go directly to the source. That is, I sell a lot of books via societies and organizations - I approach them and usually they are pretty agreeable as long as my book is in their field. Same goes for specialty "green" stores. It involves a lot of "door-to-door" but usually pays off.

Good luck.

Thanks, Peter. Great suggestion!
I was reading your information....and having worked at marketing before...I know there are always angles. FOr you...Could you contact a company that makes bio-degradable chemical free products...In oregon which is a very green area there must be many companies. What a great premium your book would be. Of course there are many sites on the internet you could examine as poss. promotion places. Do you know about internet partnering???? why not try stores that do not sell books...even hospital bookstores, cleaning supply places, etc..not exactly sure. I am just brain storming...Oh...My book is "For kids 59.99 and Over: YOu have a few years to go...actually quite a few judging from your photo...Carol
Thanks, Carol. Using the book as a premium is a great idea, as is going to stores that normally do not sell books. I appreciate the suggestions.
Hi Diane,
First, I visited your site and you're certainly doing a lot of PR things the right way. Looks like you planned ahead wisely! Also, I think the ideas you've gotten so far are definitely on the right track.

A great source for more ideas like those on publicity and reaching different audiences is . Not all info is for authors, but a ton of it can be converted easily.

Another resource is Brian Judd. His site and newsletter help with reaching beyond the bookstore.

Also, have you thought about expanding what you offer? How about an e-book or audio/MP3 version for those who are interested (which is very green BTW)? Even if it's only a small percent of sales, you're doing your best not to leave anyone out and capture as many sales as possible.

One last thought, there's a company called Terracycle that's all about recycling and organic products, may be one to approach for joint promotion.

Good Writing & God Bless

Another thought...Remember as I am sure you are aware...this is a timely subject. I took John Kremers internet marketing course...Very valuable and many of the methods would work wonders for your book...Partnering with some of the companies that produce healthy products. I am also going down this road...However my marketing skills far exceed my computer ones. A daily challenge for me to navigate successfully around. ANy helpful ideas about computer classes etc. much appreciated...Carol
