The Book Marketing Network

For book/ebook authors, publishers, & self-publishers

We're all part of this group, so obviously we use the internet. But what other form of media have you found to be helpful in promoting your book(s)? Share your experience and get specific!

For example:

TV - Did you promote your book to a specific morning talk show? Did you do a cable program? Did you promote it during a specific time for a tie-in?

Radio - What kinds of programs did you contact? Did you contact by letter, phone, email, etc. Was the radio show Christian/secular? Was it a talk radio channel or a specific program? Why did you think your book was a good fit?

Newspaper? Magazines? Let's share are ideas!

Dear Lisa,

I have just recently started trying to promote my two books called "Light Beyond The Storm" and "What Shall We Do With This Life? God Has The Answer..." So far, in addition to my website at StephenCaravana.com, I have had the help of my local newspaper, and word of mouth through friends, family, and acquaintances. My next P.R. source to promote my books will be in the form of advertising through Christian/Catholic periodical papers such as the Anchor and Daily Bread. However, those all cost money which as you know is a valuable commodity right now for a fledgling author. I still feel that getting the word/message out through other believers who embrace what we are doing is the best way to reach our intended audience.

I think that you and I and the rest of the Christian Authors Connection must capitalize on each others' contacts and target audience. Perhaps a page on the Book Marketing Network that specifically caters to each of our specific niche in the Christian/Spiritual/Religious genre, that lists our names, our work, our websites, and other information about us might help us to reach our intended audiences. We must act quickly and boldly if we are to complete our mission of faith that God had chosen for us.

Just a thought!

May God Bless You and all of us for trying to reach others with the Good News of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Keep on praying and He will give us all that we ask for. I truly believe that. And, so must you and the rest of the Christian Authors Connection! Our faith in Him is all that we will ever need in this lifetime.

Interesting. I have a good personal network on Facebook, but have only used it once to promote a seminar based on my book.
Did you set up a group of some sort?
Can we see it?
Sure, take a look. I only have a few fans, but I am working on it

Good ideas and thanks for taking the time to start the discussion. I am using most of the media listed below.
Any cost effective ideas I am defintely interested!

I'd love to hear more about TV & Radio, personal experiences with contacts, actual bookings and shows coupled with the ratio of actual slots for authors in comparison to authors. That is to say, if 100 authors made contact with local tv or radio stations, how many authors would actually receive an invitation? What are some of the best ways for a author to make contact, get in the door and actually get some air time?

Newspaper and magazines sounds great. I'm wondering if there are any free advertising slots available for authors, or for example what does a 16th or 8th page slot average cost run? and what might be the actual author sales that would need to be generated to cover such advertising cost taking into consideration royalties.

Of course additional thoughts are the norm:

Direct mail advertising using targeted marketing.
Book signing events at local bookstores.
Book signing events at local malls.
Book signing events through local community associations.
Book signing events at local churches.
Book signing events at local libraries.
For children's books, reading events at local libraries.
Post cards with author / book graphics.
Author business cards w/ book cover picture.
Author media posters & book event posters.
Custom giveaway book markers w/ author contact info.

No doubt that a time slot on Oprah or Larry King live would be of great benefit (-:
Hello,

Most of my book promotion has been through the internet. Following are other methods that I've used:

Hired a publicist
Book signing events at book stores
Book signing events at literary conferences
Book signing at a college
Post card and business card distribution
Website
Reviews
Book give-aways
Blog radio show interviews and readings
Writing for online magazines
Networking with other authors - Exchanging/or donating promotional materials for distribution at events
Social networks

I would love to appear on Oprah, Larry King, or the Tyra Banks show.
It sounds like you have your homework done and are pursuing some great things. Keep up the great work. May you find much success and may all the right doors be opened for you.

Merry Christmas !
