Something About Me and My Book:
Writing has been a passion and an important outlet in my life. Born in Belgium, I lived in South Africa for fifteen years before moving to Toronto, Canada, where I now live. As they say, “life is a journey,” and I try to use all of my varied experiences and exposure to diverse cultures to enrich my writing.

Another passion in my life is a deep love of animals. Cats are especially close to my heart, and I use my writing to bring awareness to their issues. Most importantly, I try to focus on the critical need to educate more people about the importance of neutering their pets, and encouraging support of local animal rescue organizations.

I will soon be releasing a book entitled, “Kitten Diaries.” Both stories in “Kitten Diaries” are true Both are humorous tales. First there is “Chanel’s Story” about the time when I adopted my wonderful cat, Chanel, at an animal shelter. This story is followed by “Queeny’s Diary” and is about a kitten that stays with friends of her owners, while they go on vacation, and suddenly finds herself in a household full of cats. For updates, please visit www.connymanero.com

I also have opinions and points of view that I like to share here on Helium. Networking with other writers, sharing ideas and stories has been an especially enriching experience.

My next two projects will be children’s stories with cats and even a ferret as characters, followed by an expose of temporary workers (aka temps) in the workplace. If you think you know what it means to have a temporary job, think again.

Kitten Diaries - FREE

I have 200 copies of 'Kitten Diaries' to give away for free.

'Kitten Diaries' is a book for cat lovers of all ages, and you can have your copy absolutely free.

The only thing I am charging for are the mailing costs, which is $6.

Even though the book is free, $1 per copy will be donated to a cat shelter.

Below are the first few pages of the story ...

For a while I lived in a cat shelter.

Then one day my friends and I were put in cages, loaded into… Continue

The cost of spaying / neutering

I recently adopted a kitten from a cat shelter.

When she was old enough I decided to have her spayed.

I could have gone to the shelter clinic, but the nearest shelter clinic is 30 miles away, and because I don't have a car and rely on public transportation, I thought it best to take a cab to a private veterinarian.

From what I had heard spaying a cat would cost me between $45 - $80.

Imagine my surprise when, after the operation, I was presented with a bill of… Continue
