Something About Me and My Book:: I wallow in self pity. I envy my dog. I even envy his fleas. Why on earth did I want to be a writer? It wasn't "want". It was a feeling of being called. Was it a wrong number? I prefer smooth peanut butter to crunchy. I wear my t-shirts until they're just pieces of cloth held together by threads. I often have a sense that I am a grotesque.
The only saving virtue of this insight is that I realize that almost
everyone, if they're honest, views themselves as grotesque. It's the
honesty that counts. If you think you're normal, you're crazy! We live in a time when everyone has a book, everyone writes. Publishing
truly fine fiction is so difficult as to be near impossible. I know that
I've set myself a goal that is to cross spears with the impossible.
I can't let myself believe that it's impossible. If the universe "banged"
fourteen billion years ago, I know I can "bang" a book or two before
I expire.
