"The Captain's Coin," a fictional novel finds Michael Brady leaving County Mayo at height of the Potato Famine in 1848. Arriving penniless in NYC, he is given a new penny by the ship's captain which becomes his 'good luck charm.' At the height of the Civil War Battle of Antietam, he is saved by his lucky coin and returns a hero to NYC. Getting elected to NYS Assembly, he rises to Speaker, running for Governor in 1888. His good luck penny is presented to the city of New York upon his death and is given to NY Public Library's main branch in Midtown.
