New to the Game

Hello, and thank you for taking the time to stop in and read this.

I have to admit that modern technology baffles me. Writers today not only need to inform and entertain, they need to navigate the constantly changing labyrinths of the web. They must blog, update websites, seek out friends. They must display an almost Einsteinian grasp of a realm not all are mentally equipped to master. To give you an idea of how challenged I am, on those rare occasions when I borrow somebody's cell…

Last day of Cheryl Kaye Tardif's virtual book tour: read chapter 2 of Children of the Fog

Today marks the end of Cheryl Kaye Tardif's month long virtual book tour.

From Cheryl: I will confess, I am exhausted! It's been a long time since I've written these many articles and answered these many interviews. :) But I had so much fun visiting all of my hosts' wonderful sites, getting to know them and answering questions from visitors via email or comments.

Thank you! You have all made my 'Touring the World' virtual book tour a success! And I look forward…

The group, is officially going public on September 1st. The goal of Jerry Simmons' group is to connect authors with readers and writers .

It is important for authors to "be out there" if they want to be found by search engines and readers. All groupds are not created equal and each serves there own purpose. NB is free! If you join and nothing happens, drop out. But there are many authors who do not take advantage of such opportunities and then complain that no one…

7 Steps to Make Your Website Your Client Attraction Magnet

When I started my online business in 1999, I had a website, but did very little with it, as it seemed impossible to get noticed by the search engines. My website simply served as my online brochure and I had no plan in place to drive any traffic there. Fast forward to 2007, and now almost all of my clients come to me from my website. In fact, my website has brought 5 clients to my door in the past week.

God, The Mayonnaise and the Toilet Tank

Well, you're probably wondering what these three have in common. This is the title of a talk we give to encourage groups of all sizes. When we share the details, we show that we are no stranger to hard times ourselves, so we really live what we counsel, write and speak about!

If you've ever had the misfortune of having the utilities turned off so you don't have heat, electricity or air conditioning,or if you've slept in your car in an isolated location in the dead of winter, we…

Choosing a Best-Selling Title: Replay and Special Offer

I don't know if you were on the call last night, but I answered LOTS of questions. You can now listen to the replay.

There's also an early-bird special offer that ends at 5 p.m. (Central) TODAY that I want you to know about, before time runs out.

Even though I answered many questions on the call, I realized I could not do the topic justice in…

Things an author needs to know!

Now that I am retired there are things that never occurred to me until I could write on a regular basis and my book was published. I want to share them with anyone who writes.

1. A comfortable chair is a necessity especially with the amount of hours you sit in front of a computer or typewriter.

2. Since an author's time is limited, you need to learn chair exercises to keep in shape and to avoid weight gain.

3. Do not be discouraged when you sit down to write and it takes…

Cover for "The Lace Reader"

It took us four tries to get the cover for "The Lace Reader" right (I've posted it in the Photos area.) I look back now at some of the early attempts and I wonder "What was I thinking?" Lesson learned: it takes a few tries to get a cover that really works. My tips: Don't fall immediately in love with your first effort, show your ideas to lots of people, listen to what they say, and be open to feedback. A cover needs to do two things: be memorable enough so that a customer can recognize…
