A large number of students are bullied everyday while at or enroute to and from school.

Aside from all sorts of behavioral intervention models, the opportunity to utilize criminal laws as a tool has been overlooked.

In the book Bully Beware! How to Fight Back with Florida Law on your Side examines the application of criminal law as yet another tool aimed at protecting children from abuse and bullying.

I think the subject of your book is needed today. There needs to be this kind of information related to the laws of all states for this activity or any federal law which may apply.
Hello Dennis:

Your points are well taken. It is doubtful people would choose to bully others if they knew the short and long term consequences for their conduct.

Yes, if a juvenile offender, they can be tried as an adult in most states. Parents are most times liable for the actions of their children in civil cases, so mom and dad shell out the money to defend their children in these matters.

A few things to consider in this approach includes being arrested-convicted of misdemeanor-felony offenses, paying money to an attorney to defend against those charges, if convicted being a convicted felon for the rest of their life-can't vote-own weapon-hold a sensitive job-may not find suitable employment as a few more reasons.

Then after conviction it is likely the bully and parents will be named in a civil lawsuit that requires you to hire counsel again and either settle the case or take it to trial since the same evidence can be used to find you liable again as double jeopardy only applies to criminal matters once again you are held accountable for your conduct.

Costs alone to have an attorney represent you in a criminal and civil matter would run at least $25,000.00.

So, the final outcome is being convicted of certain criminal acts, labeled in the community, life changing consequences and paying out all sorts of money to defend against something that should or could have been prevented.

Seems one could find a much better way to spend their time.

Thank you.
