But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you,

But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.

Today’s message is an encouragement to love everyone, even our enemies, because, as stated in our scripture verses, we are to love our enemies. We are to do good to them that hate you and me; in doing so, we are heaping coals of fire on their heads.

Loving our enemies and doing good to them, our reward will be greater than retaliating with hate. Loving our enemies shows the righteousness of God in our lives as God is love and loves all humanity, but He is a just God who punishes sin and evil. Hate is a form of sin that the one true judge-God will punish.

Allow me to explore what kind of love our scripture text references; it is the kind of love concerned for their, our enemy’s well-being and souls. Being concerned about our enemy’s soul emulates God, as His perfect desire is that all be saved and spend eternity with Him.

Loving our enemy does not mean we, as Christians, will stand by and allow evildoers to continue wreaking havoc on our society. What must we do then? We are to take the necessary action to curtail or stop the wickedness that these evildoers are causing. We take these actions for the safety of ourselves and others in our communities.

There are laws that all must abide by (God’s moral laws and society’s laws), and when those laws are broken, then we must act, but in love.
