What is the biggest challenge facing self published authors today

These days many authors are choosing to self publish because there are more avenues open to them to do so than ever before. But self-publishing is not without challenges and pitfalls. I'd like to hear what other self-published authors have to say about the process and how they are marketing their work.

I've just published two books with Amazon Kindle Direct and it has, so far been a good experience. I'd like to get a discussion going with others  who have also published with Kindle Direct as well as other venues.
