Profile Information:

Something About Me and My Book:
I am the president of Playdate Kids Publishing. Prior to publishing, I spent over twenty years of creative management and entertainment production, contributing to the success of global commercials and showcased music videos on top networks including MTV, VH1, FUSE, as well as premiere international stations around the world.

It was my interest in children that made my new endeavor an obvious next step in my career. As publisher of Playdate Kids Publishing, I created a new series of children’s books under the name The Playdate Kids. This series of books for young children between the ages of 3-6, deals with emotional and social situations that children encounter in their young lives. The stories help provide adults with the tools they need to help children understand and cope with each situation.

I am also involved with Malibu Global Awareness—a fundraiser for Doctors Without Borders (an international independent medical humanitarian organization that delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, natural or man-made disasters, or excluded from health care in over 70 countries). Over the past several years, I have successfully raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for the charity.

I hope my expansion into children’s book publishing will bring excitement and flair to the world of children’s entertainment. In addition to the book series, I plan to publish more DVDs, workbooks and other outstanding children’s products.

Great that you are working with the impressionable young children. That age is super important! Also, I've got a doctor friend that travels to Guatemala annually to help children with medical needs. Have fun with your books!

    Hi Tena,

It's my honor and pleasure being invited into your network. I believe we could learn a lot from each other and leverage on each other networks. I might want to write a series of children finance books in the future. Maybe, we could work together. Feel free to drop me a note and talk to me about your possible ideas to turn them into realization. Keep in touch and thanks for the invitation.

Although my two children are grown now, I will eventually have grandchildren to nurture and encourage. Thank you for your work with our little ones! AND for your efforts abroad. Wow! Sounds like you keep as busy as I do! I admire your dedication to children's literature through your publishing venture. Best of luck with it. I have one young adult book out, My Dear Phebe, which has been used very successfully by many teachers nationwide. I have held quite a few online chats with classes after they have read the book. You can find more about it at http://janetesmithstarbooks.tripod.com .
Also, a friend of mine, Lea Schizas, has a great new website she has just set up in preparation for a Children's Literature week in October. Here's the scoop.

    Hi Tena,
Hopefully working with children ages 3-6 will encourage them to love books and reading. It's such a shame that so many kids today don't have an appreciation of the printed word. Anything that can be done to expand horizon is wonderful. Keep up helping and caring for kids.

    Hi Tena;

Thanks for the invite. I've got a question for you. I'm seeking a video production/marketing company to digitally animate my book into a DVD for kids. To Bee or Not to Bee is an illustrated, inspirational allegory--clever and spiritually sophisticated--about a disillusioned worker bee who, with the help of a newfound friend, finds fulfillment amidst the mindless tedium and chaos of life in a honeybee colony. It's in 7 languages so far. Check out the trailer and first 3 chapters fee at www.ToBeeBook.com. Any thoughts on who I might contact?

    Thanks, John Penberthy

Considering all you've accomplished, Tena, can't believe you are so young! What admirable projects you support.

I would definitely like to run a completed ms. by you called Dog Justice (working title.) It's a gritty urban detective story for ages 9-12. The ms. received resounding approval in 3 test markets from young readers, parents, teachers and even jaded librarians. Kids wrote more than 100 unprompted hand-written fan letters with pictures extolling the virtues of DJ. (No illustrations as yet.) It appeals to intelligent readers with a taste for realism along the lines of the CSI TV series. Avoiding any hint of preaching, the plot underscores solid values such as love, loyalty, honor, tolerance, even anti-materialism. Story and character arc make DJ ideal for screenplay adaption now in progress.

If you're interested, Tena, just say the word.

Good luck in all your endeavors!

Tena, I am eager to read more about what you do. I have a Christian organization for people who live with chronic illness or pain so am familiar with Doctors without Borders. I also have a strong desire to write a children's book about having a chronically ill mom and would love to hear any of your suggestions. Up until now we've published our books through www.restpublishers.com (our own company) but children's books are a different "story" with illustrations, writing, etc. If you have any advice I'm very interested!

Hi Tena, thanks for the invite! Seems we have much in common - I've also started my own children's publishing group to produce a series - The Patty Cake Kids. My books are about a group of children in family child care that use their imagination caps to do some creative problem solving. It gives children in FCC a book they can relate to that inspires their creativity as well. I love the idea of your series and helping children with emotional issues too, can't wait to check them out!

    Hi Tena,

Thank you for your compliment; I'm glad you find the site useful. No, I don't have any knowledge about Myspace's relationship with children books. If you look in the featured books section on Author Promotion you will see two children books by Award-winning author Stacey Kannenberg. I'm not sure if she knows, but she would be a good person to ask.

Btw, your bio is quite impressive. I look forward to networking with you.

Love is when the heart loses its mind.

To love and be loved is to feel the sunshine from both sides.

In a civilization when love is
gone we turn to justice and when
justice is gone we turn to power
and when power is gone we
    turn to violence.

Love is not always power; that may be as
good a description of the human predicament
as we are likely to get.

    Remember the many
    compartments of the heart,
    the seed of what is
    possible. So much of who
    we are is defined by
the places we hold for each
other. For it is not our ingenuity
that sets us apart, but our
    capacity for love, the
    possibility our way will
be lit by grace. Our hearts
    prisms, chiseling out the
    colors of pure light.

Here’s to the fun of where the sum of us is greater than apart.

I send you greetings of peace and love from the rest of the family. They, like I, are always with you and never leave or forsake you. The angels and the rest of us want you to know how precious you are to us.

When I agreed to give up my divinity and be born in the flesh, I did so very willingly. I looked forward to the time when we, you and us, could all be together and share in everything that is. I looked forward to loving you, hugging you, comforting you and encouraging you so that, when your life gets tough, you will feel secure and supported enough to face whatever you have to face. I looked forward to being the one you could rely upon unconditionally for that strength, comfort and encouragement whenever and however you need it.

Not only that, I looked forward to sharing with you that we created you to love you, and that we so hoped and desired that you would love us back. We want you in our life, and we love it when you want us in yours. It was so exciting when I could turn to my disciples and expand our relationship to include friendship and true fellowship. I offer that friendship and fellowship to you today as well, and I look forward to your inviting me into your life in that way.

You can see there are many reasons why I came in the flesh so many years ago. There’s more! I also wanted to set you free from thoughts and behaviors that hurt you emotionally and spiritually. If you were hurt by people or experienced hard times in your life and lost things like your health, relationships, or your way of life because of disaster or unemployment, I wanted to give you the tips and tools as well as the encouragement to recover emotionally and spiritually from who or what hurt you so you could have the kind of life I want you to enjoy.

Most of you understand why I sacrificed my life for you and what an act of love that was. It is my hope that this letter will help you understand how very much more my life and ministry were to accomplish. I look forward to expanding our relationship now and forever.

    Joyfully, Jesus
