I did not grow up with the idea of becoming an author. In 2003 I was the CEO of a training company that I (and two partners) founded 18 months earlier. By running it I mean running it into the ground at a fast pace. I had no formal experience with what needed to happen, partners who had split early on, lots of debt, and a huge passion to deliver these exceptional, life altering trainings.
One night after a set of circumstances pissed me off, I got angry with God. I was yelling and cursing saying things like "This was supposed to be my lifes purpose, why are you making it so hard" and "I am making such a profound difference for people, why aren't you helping out here" and that my favorite author "Neale Donald wrote a book, makes tons of money and a huge difference with people, why are you making this so hard for me." Then I went to bed, mind you there was a lot more colorful language in my dialog.
The next morning I woke just having drempt of the title for my book "You're Hired! Interview skills to get the job". In two days I wrote the entire framework of the book and 16 months later I had published it. I am clear that this book was not my idea. Writing a book was never on any list I made. Go figure.
From there I started a podcast about jobs and careers and have been speaking at Colleges and Universities to kids on how to interview. I love it. I truly love this work and everything surrounding it.
My expertise in jobs and careers comes from my 12 years as a recruiter and having interviewed thousands of people, hiring hundreds for all sizes of companies, from New York to Santa Clara.
I have had many jobs as well. I worked for the President of the US, a Senator, on an ambulance, as a waiter, art salesman, rock band rodie, and many more careers that I think give me insight into work and what its about.
