Declared or surreptitious agendas define the DNA of power and politics. Hence, astute rulers and politicians adjust their goalposts to align with public sentiment. Imprudent ones usually end up paying heavy penalties.

Adolf Hitler is the perfect case study of an unassuming commoner's swift and incomparable ascent to power. His recognition, singlehanded channelling and manipulation of the anger and frustration of fellow citizens and skilful management of the democratic apparatus to acquire supreme authority, continues to amaze even the most insightful political scientists until today.

How else would you expect a school dropout, an unknown corporal to become the Chancellor of Germany at forty–four, by defying a powerful Field Marshal?

While Hitler's declared political agenda was to restore national pride and economic prosperity of Germany, what is most intriguing is how did he manage to fool a whole nation of civilized, intelligent and educated people into doing something as horrible as they were charmed into. Not only did he become a nuisance to the entire world for over six years, but created devastation of a proportion that had he not existed, perhaps world history and political balance would have been different.

The question that remains unanswered is how could one man mesmerise a whole nation, an intelligent race?
