Architectural Historian Chris Brewer is a registered Professional Historian through the California Council for the Promotion of History, (CCPH). He is also a member of the Society of California Pioneers. Mr. Brewer holds a B.A. and a M.A. in Public Administration from California State University, Bakersfield. He studied Historic Preservation course work at the University of California, Santa Cruz, the University of California, Los Angeles, and through extension courses of the University of Nevada, Reno.
Mr. Brewer owned and operated Vintage Resources for 24 years prior to the business’ merger with Bear State Corporation in 2005.Vintage Resources is a cultural resources consulting firm, working with Section 106 and CEQA compliance. Mr. Brewer also works on a limited basis for the Department of Transportation as an architectural historian.
Mr. Brewer is the recipient of a Beautiful Bakersfield Award from the Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce. In October, 2005, Mr. Brewer was given the Award of Distinction by the California Council for the Promotion of History (CCPH), its highest award, for long-term contributions to the preservation of history in California. He has been editor of Historic Kern, quarterly bulletin of the Kern County Historical Society, and California History Action, quarterly newsletter of the California Committee for the Promotion of History, (CCPH). He is the author of a number of books, including: Bakersfield and Kern Picture Album, 1986; Bakersfield's Photographic Past, 1998; The Golden Years of Memorial Hospital at Exeter, 1998; Exeter's Photographic Past, 1998; Southern San Joaquin Valley Scenes, 1999, Historic Kern County, 2001, Bakersfield Picture Album 2, 2003, Historic Tulare County, 2004., and Bakersfield Pastoral, Views of the Past,, published in October 2006. Mr. Brewer specializes in historical research of the San Joaquin Valley and California.
