Books from Amazon Kindle

The Ambivalent Corpse:   Start the series where it all begins!  In The Ambivalent Corpse, the first novel in the Roger and Suzanne mystery series, private detective Roger Bowman and his girlfriend scientist Suzanne Foster find themselves traveling through Uruguay and Southwest Brazil, with additional visits to Paraguay and Argentina, to solve a baffling and grotesque murder case. Parts of a dismembered corpse are found on a rocky stretch of beach in Montevideo, Uruguay, apportioned equally between Memorials to a German cruiser sunk in World War II and to the Jews killed in the Holocaust.  Because of the murder victim's strategic location shared between two antithetical monuments, the Uruguayan press names her “The Ambivalent Corpse”.  This fast paced mystery has plenty of action, atmosphere, and sense of place. While the novel is basically a tough mystery story, it adheres to the cozy conventions of clean language and no explicit sex.  The novel should also appeal to readers interested in South America.  $2.99, Free from Kindle Unlimited.

The Surreal Killer:  The Surreal Killer is leaving a trail of dead women across Chile, Peru, and Bolivia.  The victims all seem to have died in exactly the same macabre way.  There may be a link to a small group of scientists who meet annually in different locations in the region. Roger Bowman and Suzanne Foster are asked to attend this year’s meeting of the group in Lima, Peru to try to find out who was present at the previous meetings when the murders occurred.  And the reader is off on a fast paced hunt for the killer through Lima, Cuzco, and Machu Picchu in Peru and Chile’s Atacama Desert.  This Indie Book of the day Award-winning psychological thriller is a true whodunit mystery novel set in an unusual and exotic locale featuring clean language and no explicit sex.  Readers new to the series can enjoy this book as a stand-alone introduction to the region and to the series characters.  Free from Kindle Unlimited.

The Origin of Murder:  Roger and Suzanne take a vacation cruise through the Galapagos Islands, retracing the path Charles Darwin sailed and walked more than 175 years ago.  The body count increases almost as fast as the clues.  From a 5-star reader review, “When a luxury cruise ship full of hard-to-predict ecotourists is confronted with a murdered passenger, survival of the fittest takes on a whole new meaning.”  Series fans and new readers alike will enjoy this mystery novel, which can be enjoyed as a standalone entry to the series.  Like all of the Roger and Suzanne series on Amazon Kindle, this is a tough, sometimes violent, but clean (no cussing, no sexual promiscuity), mystery.

Unbearably Deadly:  For a change, the butler didn’t do it; a bear did.  Or did it?  In “Unbearably Deadly”, Roger and Suzanne visit Alaska to find out the circumstances surrounding their friends’ deaths.  The FBI investigation concludes the cause of death was a tragic accident.  With nothing more than a gut feeling that something is amiss, our sleuths head to Alaska to search for the truth.  The vast expanse of Denali National Park creates a 6-million acre locked room murder case for our sleuths to solve.  There are no suspects, no clues, and little help available.  Conspiracies abound and the truth is much more complicated than it appears.  Can the detective couple solve their most difficult case to date?  Like all of the Roger and Suzanne series on Amazon Kindle, this is a tough, but clean (no cussing, no sexual promiscuity), mystery.  Can be read as a series entry or a standalone mystery novel.  Free from Kindle Unlimited.

Rum, Cigars, and Corpses:

Roger and Suzanne have to solve a cold, but still hazardous, case in a hot climate.  Roger’s newest client was fired after leading a disastrous tour to Cuba during which a tourist died in a devastating accident.  Roger and Suzanne join a subsequent identical tour of Cuba to seek evidence the catastrophe was murder, not an accident.  There’s no shortage of suspects in this perilous case, including the Cuban Intelligence Services, the CIA, a sprinkling of additional spies waiting for them in Havana, and several suspicious characters traveling on their tour. Danger lurks as they investigate the nightmare scenario that the victim was targeted by a deadly terrorist conspiracy.  The author recently visited Cuba on a similar person-to-person tour, so all the details about locations are authentic and the background is real.
