Ravá Shelyn carries a bag of diametrically opposed items of possibilities and limitations; inferiorities and superiorities; loves and fears; assimilations and segregations. At times blindly digs in to find which one to submit to. She tells the story of love and pain – of her African American experience. This woman of the west is a Colorado native who grew up in the Northern Park Hill area of Denver. At a very early age, she began telling the stories of her classmates and childhood friends (none of which are included in her present day works). Yet, one thing was and still is clear – her mission, predestined at conception to tell stories and create art through written words.
ABOUT GIN, CHITTLINS & BLESSINGS
Gin, Chittlins and Blessings are coping methods – survival tactics; the vices picked up along the road that help mobilize a people from there to here. Are they bad? Are they good? No, they are what they are, in all their beauty and hideousness. With attaching no judgment – only love and acceptance this piece of work speaks to the very root of African Americans’ will to win and be admired by the world during the process. Gin, Cittlins & Blessings is a collection of peoms and short stories.
