Something About Me and My Book:: The SouthWest Organizing Project was founded in 1980 with a mission to empower our communities in the Southwest to realize racial and gender equality and economic and social justice.
We published a book called 500 Years of Chicano History in Pictures. This bilingual book has over 800 photos and is a notorious*, profound book that tells the story of how the Chican@ people came to what is now the U.S. well before the Pilgrims and, after the U.S. war of 1846-48, were made strangers in our own land.
*Why notorious? Because it tells the true history of the Chican@ people of the SouthWest, the one you don’t usually find in classrooms.
