I owned and operated a successful public relations/marketing firm in Washington, D.C. for 20 years. Now retired for 20 years, I love free lancing, and my work has been published hundreds of times in mass and trade magazines, newspapers, special interest publications and miscellaneous periodicals. A dreary, anonymous Christmas tree inspired me to write my first book, "Bob, the Tree who Became a Star," a fully illustrated child's Christmas story in verse. Bob shows love and kindness throughout his life in the forest and brings much joy as a Christmas tree. Wanting always to be remembered for being so kind, Bob sacrifices himself to become a star in the sky, "Bob blinks down a message for each one to mind: 'You'll always be remembered if you try to be kind.'" Fourth and fifth graders love the colorful illustrations and the positive message: "Bob taught us belong and being kind if the very first thing we should keep on our minds. If you want to be a star, it's easy to do. Just give love to others and keep some for you. It's that way with loving and being kind. Love will prosper and grow, and kindness you'll find.
