Something About Me and My Book:: My book is titled Ending The Tobacco Holocaust: how big tobacco affects our health, pocketbook and political freedom, and what we can do about it. As you may know, according to the World Health Organization, 1 billion people will die from smoking in this century. The World Health Organization has also found that 17% of all 13 to 15 year olds on our planet currently use some form of tobacco. This truly is an issue worthy of our efforts. The book is already endorsed by the Dalai Lama, Patty Young (the flight attendant who started the movement to eliminate smoking on airplanes), the financial author Robert Allen, Patrick Reynolds (the grandson of the founder of the R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company), Dr. Ernest Noble (the former Director of the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism at the National Institutes of Health, and current Director of the Alcohol Research Center at UCLA), and Dr. Robert Pearl, the CEO of The Permanente Medical Group. The book has 7 inserts provided by the World Health Organization, as well as material from Dr. Nora Volkow, the current Director of the National Institute of Drug Abuse, and other physicians and scientists. The website for the book, www.tobaccobook.com , is up and running, but is still under construction. All of the references and footnotes are on the website, and will be further optimized for click through to documents on the internet. The book was written to engage and then educate the general public about the issues. Since studies have shown that it is rare for the general public to read a book cover to cover, the book has many side bars with personal stories, pictures, interesting facts, etc., to help them become aware of the issues even if they don’t want to read it completely.
