- This is my new novel about friendship and race. Two friendships are at stake: that of two mothers, one black and one white, and the friendship between their two 13 year-old boys. When the black child is injured in an accident while playing with the white boy, all hell breaks lose in their school and neighborhood, threatening not only the friendship of the two mothers, but the best things they have built in their neighborhood together.
