Nelson Pahl's Bee Balms and Burgundy Review by J. Kaye Oldner

Laura West dubs Nelson Pahl as
“America's Next Great Writer”. She goes on to say "Every once in a while a writer comes along that demands we take notice; one that avails just the right meter, tempo, and rhythm; one that can engulf us in a story and keep us glued throughout 200 pages; one that offers a style sure to be emulated by his aspiring peers, both of his generation and generations to come. Nelson Pahl is just that writer.”

After reading Bee Balms & Burgundy, I agree. This author… Continue

A Book Review by Martha Jette for Bee Balms & Burgundy

The Author's Note at the beginning of this novella left me wondering.

"To every woman who has fought the battle, and the subsequent self-doubt and fear, win or lose.... I offer my respect." Nelson

I thought perhaps that Nelson Pahl referred to the timeless battle women face when it comes to love - from finding the right partner, to attempting to build a relationship with a man that would last a lifetime. Boy, was I wrong!

As the story of 30-something… Continue

Cheers to You, Lovely Lady!

Cristina Fernández de Kirchner (a beautiful Pisces woman with Moon in Taurus. Mmm, just my type!) was elected president of Argentina on Sunday, by the widest margin recorded since the 1983 elections. Argentina now joins nations like Panama, Ireland, Britain, and even Canada in electing women to their highest post.

Meanwhile, the “progressive” and “liberated” U.S. still trips over itself, trying to shed its closet-misogynistic, Christian white male fetish while ardently adhering to… Continue

Bee Balms & Burgundy, by Nelson Pahl

From the outside, it appears Nick May has it all: he’s successful (and, even better, self-employed) and dating a beautiful woman with whom he shares a tumultuous relationship. Unfortunately, said bombshell is a raging bitch. Okay, so maybe he doesn’t have it all.

Fortunately, Nick knows enough to dump this shrew, and his method of doing so is quite ingenious: he kicks her out of his apartment before flying home to see his mother.… Continue

Activate those Adverbs! by Nelson Pahl

One of the sure signs that you’re reading an amateur, no matter how many books he or she has sold, is that hanging adverb in his/her dialog tag. This is, simply put, no-no numero uno in regards to fiction writing.

Adverbs are the lazy man’s way to penning fiction. The mission of any worthy writer (not merely a storyteller) is to eliminate as many adverbs as possible—in not only our dialog tags but also our narrative and our descriptive writing; we want to activate our… Continue

Bee Balms & Burgundy by Nelson Pahl is a story of finding love from friendship, and learning that we are always changing.

Tuesday, December 4th, 2007 Random Thoughts From C.P. Murphy

As promised, today I want to introduce you to Nelson Pahl, author of Bee Balms & Burgundy. He has stopped by today to introduce himself, read what he has to say:

I found my way to writing after a ski career, college, and a couple of entrepreneurial endeavors, by accident. As I ran a newsletter on Baby Boomers expatriating from the U.S. in 2001, I wrote many essays on the subject. My friends and my mother occasionally read them. Of course,
they all gave me their take on not only the… Continue
