Mission 2

Story 2

Birmingham at St Martins in the Bullring

In the late sixties I was living in Birmingham and trying very hard to have an effect on young people.  At that time we were running an event each Sunday night at my local church, it was attracting hundreds of youngsters including ‘rockers’ on their motor bikes, which did not make us particularly…

The Questions

This is my first ever blog and I don't want it to appear negative but it is something which came from a discussion at a Bible Study last night.

Where do we draw the line? I've been on Facebook for a while now and it has

been great to meet up with old friends and make new…

The Principal of First priority

We have talked about meetings and the reason for them. Now let’s now take a look at what I call the ‘principal of first priority’. What is the most important command for people who follow Jesus? We have discussed other commands, for example the…

The Principal of the Collective

The Principal of the collective

We have looked at the first principals of relationship, now we need to look at how that should work out in practice. Let us look more closely at the issue of collectivism, the coming together of the followers of Jesus. This…

Principals in Action

Principal in Action

We have established that being a Christian is not at all the same as being religious. How does that work out in practice, or at least how should it work?…

First Principals

First Principals

When I was in college, one of my tasks was to write a thesis. I forget how many words it was, but I remember it was a lot! It is probably still gathering dust somewhere in my loft. My subject was ‘Man Qua Man is a Religious Being’. I won’t bore you

with the intricate details of my thesis, which was a very fat tome indeed. I

will just give you the fundamental and interesting…

Alternative

Alternative.

It’s a sad fact of life, the majority opinion is not always correct. Not that I dislike democracy, I think it is probably the best way to be governed, and

greatly preferred to some very dark alternatives. Which is why I think a good democracy must

have laws and ways to protect the…

I note from the Guardian that the Irish Doyle is suggesting that there should be, in Ireland, an extension of the blasphemy laws to include all offences to religion whatever they may be.

The Problem of Morals

The problem of Morals.

For many years I was Chair of Governors for a large North London school. We would regularly receive directives from Government departments asking us to work hard to create

good citizens. Well educated ones of

course. I sympathised with their desires.…

Thinking

THINKING....

Introduction:

When I first started a Christian school some 30 years ago I was part of a denomination. Having got the operation of the ground and very quickly some 160

children being educated with us, I was naive enough to believe that if I could

do this, lots of other would too. My thinking was that me who only has a Road

Safety colouring certificate can do this what could others who are clever…

What Value Refugees and Asylum Seekers.

It is amazing how much we misunderstand the process of refugees and asylum

MY FRIEND THE CAR SMASHER

MY FRIEND THE CAR SMASHER

Car Smasher builds garage

It took me some time to persuade my friend Andy Smith to visit Kenya with me, as I felt his church needed a third world focus as well as the great work he was already doing in the Rohampton Estate, which is one of the larges council estates in Europe.

Andy was a little squeamish about coming with me to Africa, even though some of the storeys he told me concerning the work on the estate made me somewhat careful,… Continue

Adrian on Darwin

Adrian on Darwin

Running a Christian School within the independent sector often means that we are contacted by TV to do this or that, the often asked question is about evolution and creationism as if somehow we did nothing else. Even people like Richard Dawkins has spent time grilling us on our views for his documentary The Root of all Evil. Funnily enough we don’t usually think much about Darwin or evolution between those TV times.

From what I know of Darwin he was a good family man,… Continue
