"5 Questions" with author Marsha Hubler!

Who influenced you most in your life? I would have to say that Jesus Christ has influenced me the most. He’s given me the assurance of my salvation and eternal life with him one day. As far as “human” influence, it would have to be my godly mother, who reared me in the Christian faith and taught me a strong work ethic. Do you use events from your own life? In THE LOVES OF SNYDER COUNTY SERIES, I used my experiences with Amish and Mennonite folk I know here in the Susquehanna Valley, central PA. All my kids’ horse books are based on my experience with horses and foster kids plus all the children I met in over 40 years of educational services with them. How does someone get started on the writing journey? My advice is to start “small.” Don’t go for the best-selling novel on your first try. There’s SO much to learn about the writing/publishing business. Start with Letters to the Editor in your local newspaper, short articles, and short stories. After you learn the craft of writing by joining a local critique group and attending writers’ conferences, then start submitting some of your work for publication. After you have a few credits under your belt, then go for the novel. Favorite restaurant? My favorite restaurant is the China Wall on our Susquehanna Valley Route 11 and 15 business strip. The place has an awesome buffet of both Chinese and American food, including a salad bar and all kinds of desserts, for a very reasonable price. Tell us one thing about you that isn't commonly known. My father (a pool shark) taught me how to play pocket billiards when I was a child. We have a pool table in our basement, and I can shoot a not-half-bad game of eight ball.
