Respect Your Elders

I do not if any of you have seen the recent attacks on two of our most precious resources. There were two stories recently in the news in which two elderly people were beaten up and robbed. The first was an elderly woman in her eighties who had her purse stolen and the second was a ninety two year old man who had been car jacked. The footage of the attacks was hideous. My first initial thoughts were shock and anger as I watched the video footage of the elderly man and women being punched, slapped, and beaten. My spirit was very troubled afterwards because I was trying to figure out what could have possible been the spiritual state of the two men that attacked the elderly man and woman. It seems to me that any individual that is capable of hurting a helpless senior citizen must not at all be connecting to anything spiritual at all. It is an innately spiritual for human being to have compassion, sympathy, reverence and respect for our elders. This is noted in all viable human societies both ancient and present. I know that there has to be something terribly horrible going on with in the spirit of the two men that attacked the elderly man and women. I know that we live in a society that values youth but I can not think of anyone that I know that would be capable of harming an elderly person. My list includes young people (under twenty) who can be very selfish. I have prayed and felt deep sorrow for the beating victims. The same sorry is felt for the perpetrators because they are spiritually dead and individuals that are spiritually dead are capable of anything.
