Partner With Bookstores to Boost Their Sales (and Yours)

Three Steps to Bolster Sales by Partnering 1. When you appear at bookstores or are interviewed or speak or write about your book, recommend three great “companion books” and notify the authors of those books, in advance. They may choose to reciprocate. Alternatively seek out authors of complementary books and suggest such an arrangement. 2. Leverage this approach by writing a one to four sentence MiniReview that you offer to bookstore owners. Suggest that they treat these as they do “Staff Reviews. Include them in their print or online newsletter. Get the bookstore staff to tape each MiniReview to the shelf under the book it touts. Of course the review is attributed to you by name as author of your book (title). 3. Suggest to bookstores or conferences where you’re speaking that you’ll mention the two to three related books and suggest that they display the other books, adjacent to yours and offer a package price. Boosts all authors’ sales and per-customer buying. In your handout, refer to the other books; tips and list as resources. Ask partnering authors to reciprocate. • Co-author a “how-to” or “Top Ten” or other column(s) that incorporates tips from all partners. At end of column, offer an e-tip sheet of 10 more tips, which readers can order by email. Thus you warm up your prospective buyers and build a list of them. Have a policy on how all partners can use that list. This column(s) might appear in all partners, newsletters, blogs, etc. See more ways to profitably partner in my book, SmartPartnering, in the Grand Store at sayitbetter.com
