The Book Marketing Network

For book/ebook authors, publishers, & self-publishers

Hi! I would appreciate anyone on BMN giving me information about the Writer's Literary Agency in New York City at the following address: http://www.w/writersagency.com/about.html. I found it clicking around the entries on John K.'s 101 Independent Publishers. Thanks, Ted

There you go, Ted! Those are my plans as well for 2008 - start my own company. Gotta do a ton of research, but for those who are serious and have a business mind, it's worth it! Read as much as you can and get involved with publisher's groups on Yahoo and other places - and just listen in. It's amazing what you'll learn by listening to those who are already successful publishers.
I teach a course on publishing & promoting here in NC, and I know it scares a lot of people. But better be prepared and do it right than destroy all of your credibility - and that of other small publishers.
Keep us posted on what you do!

L. Diane - So another publishing mirage bursts! I had read some negative things online about WLA, but thought I'd check with BMN. Unfortunatel, the whole of publishing is exploitative! The commercial houses are worse, even------because more money is involved. Did you know that Publish America, besides their possibly confiscatory contract, will not publish for free more than two books, if they don't have good sales. I'm going to try a few more publishers, and if they don't work out-----There will be no other way to do it then to start my own publishing company. I know all the elements for doing it, including a lawyer, an accountant, a printer who'll also do format and cover design and allow individual imprints, and an expert online marketer. It wouldn't cost me more than I'd pay to get tied up with a POD / Self-Publisher, and then I'd get 100% of the royalties. There might be a government agency that I could use. The best way to go with one's own company would be to enter into an association with with individual authors, or to form a company with an association or cooperative. If a group would share and contribute, then everyone could get published and marketed. Authors are much too individualistic for it, though, I think---at least in my experience in Rhode Island where I presently reside. (we all want to be prima donnas, I suspect---and me, too.) I have another part of the country where it might be easier to put together a publishing group. Thanks for your reply. Ted

Ted-
Visit the following website, Preditors & Editors, for information regarding this agency - they are very highly NOT recommended!

They will ask for money to review your book and more money to solicit it to publishing houses - and you should never, EVER pay a publisher or agent money for this!
